JUNIOR ACTIVITIES The Junior Class of 1953 has had a very successful year. At the beginning of the school term, the following students were selected as class officers: President, Gene Crowder, Vice President, Boyd Morris; Secretary, Beatrice McCutchen; Treasurer, Dale White; Reporter, Jimmy Richey. Mr. Starry was elected class sponsor. In the sport field Don Brooks, Hubert Bums, Jimmy Richey, Jimmy Kidd, and Eugene Huffines participated in football. Don Brooks won scoring honors of the team. Representing the Junior class in basketball were Jimmy Richey and Don Brooks in the boys division while Teda Isbell, Martha Thompson, La Dana Freeman, Donna Harmon, Nettie Williams, Ruth Dennis, and Harlene Huffman carried the colors of the girls. Teda Isbell was high point scorer for the season. When baseball rolled around Don Brooks, Jimmy Richey, and Gene Crowder took starting positions in the lineup. Don Brooks was elected captain of the team. While the boys were on the baseball diamond, the girls played softball and tennis. In the music department-seventeen juniors were enrolled in mixed chorus. In special divisions were these singers: Girls' Quartet, La Dana Freeman; Mixed Quartet, Martha Thompson; Girls' Trio, Teda Isbell. In the different queen races during the year, we were very successful in that the class worked hard for each and every candidate. Our candidate for Football queen, Barbara McDonald, came in a close second as the class raised a record setting total of $223.67. In the Annual queen race, we almost made the winner's circle as our candidate, Betty Bowling, lost by two votes. Now come the races that we are very proud to talk about. La Dana Freeman was named FFA Sweetheart and she received a beautiful jacket as a reward. At the Valentine Ball in which the whole high school took part, Teda Isbell and Jimmy Richey were elected King and Queen of Hearts. We presented our class play entitled You Can't Kiss Caroline. It was a very successful play and we enjoyed presenting it very much. On May 22, 1953, we honored the Seniors with the annual Junior-Senior Banquet. There was a western setting with songs and speechs. Everyone had a good ume while eating chicken and hot rolls like kings. In the special awards division these juniors received the following honors: Gene Crowder, Scholarship and Honor Roll: Jimmy Richey, Honor Roll; and Teda Isbell, Girls' Athletic Award. As the doors close behind us on our very happy and successful Junior year, we are looking forward to our last year in school as Seniors. When next fall rolls around and the school bell starts to ring, you can find us on the front steps rarin to go. Be seeing you next year!
