SENIOR CLASS PROPHECY Written by Amy Lee Periman, Attorney On October 6, 1965, from New York City, Here 1 am sitting at the front of the court rbom, nervously awaiting the beginning of the trial. It is three o'clock and no one can know how much I dread the next case because of the sentiment involved. Next to me sits my client, Mrs. Mona Raye Richey, my old-time pal, who is suing her husband. Jack, a brilliant surgeon, for divorce. I have heard rumors that Jack has been seen in several night clubs with June Swanson, a librarian. By the way, June also was a fellow graduate of mine. Maybe my doubts are groundless, and I can reconcile them, for only yesterday I got Curtis Brown, a notorious bootlegger, off with only two years. I didn't want to defend such a culprit; but when Avanna and the twins looked at me with pleading eyes, I just couldn't refuse. As I look over the court room, I can scarcely believe that so many of my fellow seniors have come so far to witness such an unfortunate occasion. I certainly didn’t think that L. C. McCutchen would leave his lavish fishing resort even for a minute. There on my right is Betty Conn, a successful career girl. I have heard it said that she is an excellent stenographer for an important insurance agency. Ah! and in the reporters' box, Venson Trout, the ace reporter, sits poised and ready for the trial to begin. Venson reached the peak of his fame when he covered an airplane crash in which Harold Sorrel, co-pilot, rescued twenty passengers, among whom was Norma Bowring, air line hostess. Now Venson has settled down to the quiet life of covering trials since he received a leg injury while covering a gun battle between Arlis Clement, a great policeman, and a bandit. (Arlis also graduated in ’51.) Speaking of Arlis, I read in the newspaper that he recently turned down an offer from Sam Andrews, who has risen to the height of District Attorney, for a high position in the F. B. I. Arlis insisted that he would rather stick to his beat. Look who just walked in! Miss Janis Cowan, who is now a famous dress designer. Just think! She came all the Way from her studio in Paris to witness this important trial. Well, enough of my senior buddies. The trial must go on. Mack Stacy, the dignified judge, has entered and has called for order in the court. Thank goodness, he and Fannie Jo will never break up. Who would want to, with all those cute redheaded kids. While we’re on the subject of red-headed kids, Pat and her coach husband, Red, have two of their own. I had lost track of Pat and Red; but while visiting Mary Ruth, Dalton and their ten rambunctious boys, last week, Mary Ruth told me that Pat gave up her career as home economics teacher nine years ago. Even though one of the couples of '51 is trying to separate with a divorce, many of the couples are still happily married. Just yesterday I met Neomi and Johnnie Dunlap strolling down Fifth Avenue. They have just returned from a cruise with the McKinneys, Jimmy and Margaret. They all seemed to have had a wonderful time, enjoying the many conveniences which Jimmy has invented for his special yacht. I knew Jimmy's mechanical mind would bring him millions. Dale Soward has just released his Sowardite, which is, in fact, the fastest thing on the road. Did I say road?
