At this party, games were played, refreshments served, and gifts exchanged. This party was held in the recreation room of the high school building. The Juniors feel that they have contributed their share to the success of this year's activity program. Although the Junior Football Queen Candidate, Genelle Bayless, was defeated, we are justly proud of the support given by all members of the class in her behalf. In the race for Basketball Queen, our candidate, Betty Jo Dugger, faired better and was chosen basketball queen. The Junior Class has participated idiole-heartedly in the other activities of the year. Genelle Bayless, Phyllis Bingaman, Wanda Bowring, Nina Brightwell, Vera Jean Isom, Barbara Miller, and Fern Richey have been in the glee club. Fern Richey has also been a member of the quartette . A majority of the junior girls were members of the pep club, and Barbara Miller has been one of the pep leaders. Hill, Watson, Richey, Williams, Parnell, Dennis, t, Bridwell, Thornton, Whitaker, and Mitchell have starred in one or more of the major sports this year. Bridwell and Thornton were co-captains of the football team. The Junior Class, under the supervision °F Andrew Terrell,, presented the play, Aunt Tilly Goes To Sea , the cast included Vera Jean Isom, Aunt Tilly) Ray Bridwell, Luther Larrimer) Nina Brightwell, Pamela) Don Parnell, Mervin Tucker) Betty Jo IXigger, Sylvia Frayne) Roley Richey, Beroie Oakie) Horace Scott, Daniel Fisher) William Mitchell, Dr. Ferdinand-Fisher)Phyllis Bingaman, Lucinda Tolbert) and Barbara Miller, Jinx Jackson.According to the response given by the audience, the cast gave a splendid performance. Three members of the Junior Class have their names on the Honor roll. They are Genelle Bayless, Wynona Knowles, and Betty Jo Dugger. Wynona Knowles will be awarded the scholarship medal for the highest grade average intthe Junior Class this year. Thirty eight juniors are eagerly looking forward to next term, when they expect to be the largest Senior Class in the Blanchard High School in several years. Vinita Jo Richey and Naomi Pool are the two Sophomores who ore contributing their v.it to the Annual Staff. Barbara Hale was honored in being chosen Football Queen. Don Dennis, Troy Moore, end Duane Lard added much sparkle to footbell and basketball through their participation in those sports. Troy Moore's pitching earned him e birth on the baseball nine. Our very competent class president, Don Dennis, has bean ably assisted by our other officers: Barbare Hale, vice-president; Vinita Jo Richey,secretsry-treasurer; and Ronald Smith, Student Council delegate. Last, but not least, is cur cepatle sponsor. Coach Carl Dunaway, who has shown us many good times, and who has been much appreciated by the Sophomore Class. The November party, the Christmas party, a wiener roast, and our trip to the Easter Pageant were the high eights of our social events. Our only wish that has not been fulfilled is that next year we may Have as many good times and as grand a sponsor as we have had this year. I First Rows Second Row: Third Row: Fourth Row: Harold K. The Freshman Class, under the guidance of Miss Ardath Champlin, sponsor, and Miss Olive Su Davidson, homeroom teacher, has completed its first year in the Blanchard High School. We feel that we have had a successful year, and that we have learned something about general school life. We enjoyed our freshman party which Miss Champlin supervised. Lucretia Lee and Carol Smith were our candidates for queens this year. Though we did not get either of them elected, we enjoyed participation in the contests. Several of our classmates have achieved outstanding success this school year. Jerry Hale is our only classman to be on the honor roll. Roll on Jerry. Perhaps some others will join you in the sophomore year. We think our class officers are to be commended for their efficient service. They are: Norvel Joe Moore, president, Jorry Hale, vice-president; and Carolyn Ellcrd, secretary. We think one of our outstanding achievements ? as the defeat of Dibble by the Junior High Team, which was composed entirely of freshmen. Next year, when we have become sophomores,we expect to carry a greater load of the high school activities, and we are sure, nany of us will achieve greater success. Fourth Row: Wanda Bowring,Nina Brightwell. La Von Swanson, Naomi Pool. Phyllis Bingaman. iV' ., SPORTS Under the direction of Coach Dunaway, the Blanchard Football team had a very successful season. This was our £iret attempt at football in thirteen years. Only three of the boys, Don Parnell Ray .Tidwell, and Kent Thornton, had had any previous experience in this sport. Coach Dunaway spent much time throughout the season drilling the team on the fundamentals of football. The team played nine games, winning four, losing four, and tying one. Because of their previous experience, Ray Bridwell and Kent Thornton were chosen co-csptains of the team. Though we lose Orlan Brooks, Perry Joe Stacy, Harvey Hale, Tony Burris, Corkey Isbell, and, Vernon Hitchell by graduation, we shall have good replacements in Don Parnell, Morvel Joe Moore, Don Dennis, George Dennis, R.J. Hill, Jack Cowan,Don Watson, Troy Moore, Oscar Brooks,Bill Wheless, Raymond Brooks, Willie Mitchell, Richard Puckett, and others. Kent Thornton and Ray Bridwell doubtless will be spearheads of the 1947 squad. Coach Dunaway is planning a strenuous season of training in preparation of the team for the 1947 season. Blanchard Hieh School is grateful for the solendid service and leadership given by Coach Dunaway this year, and we are indeed happy that he is to be at the helm directing sports next year. Coach Dunaway directed the basketball activities this year, and the Blanchard High School enjoyed a good season. Captain Perry Joe Stacy was supported by such players as Tony Burriss, William Mitchell, Kent Thornton, Troy Moore, R. J. Hill, and Delmas Erwin to bring Blanchard High its eleven wins out of twenty three games. The Junior High Basketball team showed a little more power to turn in ten wins from eighteen games with a percentage of games won of .556. They won the Second Place Trophy in the McClain County Tournament. The wheel-horses on this team were: Morvel Joe Moore, Jerry Hale, Oscar Brooks, Ray McDonald, Dalton Brooks, James Dodd, Raymond Brooks, and Marvin Wilfong. Baseball is one of the best Bports in the history of the athletic world. Under the direction of Coach Andy Terrell,Blanchard High has turned in a good showing in this sport. Although the team got a late start in training, they have a percentage of .500 in games won. Perry Joe Stacy and Troy Moore have done some good pitching this season, and the catching has been well done by Corkey Isbell and R. J. Hill. This battery has had splendid support from Thornton at center field. Hale at left field. Hill at right field Willie Mitchell at first, Orlan Brooks at second, Vernon Mitchell at third, and Stacy at shortstop. With all these players, there is something even better. That is Coach Andy Terrell and his strategy that he used, especially, against Washington Hi i iich led to the 2-1 victory in a two inning over time. £ INCIDENTALS Does Patsy Puckett really write poetry about Fletcher? - And Jack? . .
