JUNIOR ACTIVITIES The Class of 1947 lies passed its third high school year with a fall measure of success and happiness, under the direction of Solon Young, class president, Norma Jean Combs, secretary, ana Joach Joe King, sponsor. Early in the year, the Juniors sponsored a carnival, a 6ay affair, which was a success from a social as well as a financial standpoint. For v.ecks af'.erv.ard, the members of the class went about feeling like real financiers, for they had by their own efforts amassed the staggering sum of $190.00. Moreover, their nominee for Carnival Q,ueen, Norma Jean Combs, was elected by a good majority. Attended by the other queen contestants,Horma Je©n was crowned in a beautiful ceremony at the close of the carnival. Orlan Brooks had the distinction of placing the crown unon toe queen s head. Under the direction of Superintendent starrv, the Juniors presented their annual play April 5, 1946. The play chosen was Here Comes Charlie”, a comedy with a well organized plot. For v.ecks before this play was given,Orlan Brooks..went «bout with the unkempt appearance of a young man who had forgotten to shave. A three weeks growth of red beard enabled him to look the part of Uncle Alec, a leading char cter of the play, whom he portrayed with much skill. Equally successful wes Betty V atson in her role Charlie”,the crude, unpolished girl from the hills, who became the ward of Larry Elliott, forcefully represented by John Isbell. Other members of the cast were: Aunt Fanny, an arrogant person who dominated Larry’s household, portrayed by Louise Perimon:Vivian Smvthe-Kersey, by Norma Jean Combs; Caroline Smythe-Kcrsey, Vivian’s mother, by d ima we uagie; mortimer Smythe-Kersey, Vivian’s brother, by Solon Young;, and a comical Irish couple, Nora Malone, Larry's coo;:, and Tin mccrill, a policeman, oortrayed by Geneva Loots and Harvey Hole, respectively. The Juniors have done their part to a3sisu in this year's activities. Geneva Roots is a member of the Girls Gl;e Club. John Isbell, Harvey’ Hale, Orlan Brooks, and Perry Joe Stacy gave their best on the basketball court, and look forv.ard to forming the nucleus of our senior basketball team next year. Bill Hill, John Isbell, Orlan Brooks, Tony Eurris,Harvey Hale, and Perry Joe Stacy formed a stable sextet on the baseball team. Louise Periman and Norma Jean Combs hove beer, faithful assistants in the library. Jack Richey did good work as the Junior Class Representative to the Studont Council. Sharing in scholarship honors, two members of the Clas3 of 47 have won distinction. Louise Periman has been a member of the National Honor Society each year since she entered high school. Louise also won the class scholarship medal in 1944 and 1945. Juniors who belong to the National Honor Society for 1946 are: Norma Jean Combs and Louise Periman. Noto: The fact that we left Jack Richey's name off the play cast ibove is no proof that we did not enjoy his performance. The Annual staff sincerely apologizes to Jack, who played the part of ’cd Hartley, Larry's college pal.
