Blake Salutes Heinz Otto After 38 years we are sad to say that an era is coming to an end at Blake. Mr. Otto is hanging up the lederhosen after almost four decades of distinguished service and it is for this reason, that we, the staff of the 1986-87 Reflections, wish to dedicate this edition to Mr. Heinz Otto. For the past 38 years every student that ever walked the halls of Blake has become acquainted with you, and we are all better because of it. Your cheery smile and quick wit have brightened 5700 days for Blake students, and your in-class pet-names; Fatty and Skinny, have evoked more than an occasional guffaw among your German students. We are all very lucky that you have been so devoted to the teaching of German, and active in the Blake community. Blake faces an unsure future without you, Mr. Otto. Who will run the secondhand bookstore? Which you have run so well. Who will record German radio for us? Who will visit Mr. Anderson when he gets lonely, and keep Mr. Vetscher in line? Who is going to make everyone in the lounge shut-up so that we can take our tests in peace? You have meant so much to all of us over the past 38 years that we can hardly express it in words. Because of you, all of us have always worn socks and underwear and brought our homework to German class, and at least half of us have had our little pointed heads blessed. We cannot thank you enough for your helpful advice and your willingness to help us seek out learning experiences abroad. Our respect for you is great, and so is our sorrow as we watch you ride off into the sunset, but we have to smile and say, “How to go, Mr. Otto! You deserve a kiss.” 4 Dedication
