The 1985 Homecoming week was a very special one for all Blake students. The slogan for the week was “Beat Them With The Bear Facts”, originated by senior Stephanie Bell. The festivities began with the traditional Wednesday night bonfire at the middle school. Skits were performed by the classes and athletic teams. The highlight of the evening was the announcement of the homecoming royalty. Freshmen attendees were Wendy Jensen and Jake Ritchie, sophomores were Kristina Davenport and Chris Kahler, juniors were Anne Bokman and Stewart Crosby, seniors were Andy Kopstein and Beth Hodder. The king and queen were crowned as Steve Kahler and Sara Weinberg. Excitement and congratulations surrounded these people for the rest of the week. Sweatshirts and buttons were sold with a Blake bear on them drawn by senior Kevin Delany. Unfortunately the Bears were Defeated by Centennial in the football game but that didn’t dampen the intense spirit of the athletes and crowd. The Homecoming dance that evening of Friday October 7 proved Blake spirit to be in top condition. The band that played was A Few, and dance-goers partied to their terrific music. During the week, Blakies dressed up in clashed outfits, as famous people and the highlight of the week was Rambo Rambette day. The halls were filled with rough looking guys and girls who wore ripped clothes and bandanas around their heads. However, students were warned against carrying any implements of destruction. The week was rounded out by a very special pep fest. The whole school standing and singing Blake, Blake. Overall, despite the defeat, the 1985 Homecoming was full of spirit and good times. 14 • Homecoming
