MIDDEL SCHOOL BANDS The Blake Middle School bands, conducted by David Hawley, have had a fun-filled year. The 7-8 grade bands went on a 3-day, out-of-state, band trip south to Iowa. There they viewed college bands and worked with various college directors. Throughout the trip, they played many concerts for others including nursing homes and other schools. During the 1984-85 school year the 7-8 Wind Ensemble has played in the Pep Fest, Spring Festival, and given two concerts. The 6th grade band also has had opportunities. They spent a day giving concerts for the students at Blake and Highcrott Lower Schools. Between stops the students enjoyed a lunch of pizza and pop at Chuck E. Cheese. Congratulations to all the bands for a job well done! 4 iSpamsh stud n :3 m the 7th grade gpem a week . . studying Hispanic .; Cuiture by making .0010 rfui pinatas ' and fQiiQwing Up SWith a fiesta. M :1: 4 x VA; The Blake Middle School supported three choirs in the 1984-85 season. We had such an overwhelming number of students wanting to be in Chorus 6, that we divided them into two choirs, each rehearsing half the year. They sang a Beat- tle's medley among other songs. ' Chorus 7-8 which re- hearsed only half the year performed everything from Ave Verum to Beat It from Michael Jackson's Thriller, and the theme from Cheers. A choreography group was added to some of their songs. The Middle School Choris- ters, consisting of seventh and eighth grade students rehearsed all year. They had a mixture of all kinds of music, from Kyrie Eleison and Agnus Dei, by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart to a medley of 203 pieces for the spring play, to Maniac, from Flashdance. Both the Choristers and Chorus 7-8 got together to sing Hit the Road Jack and a special song, Love Makes the Difference, which they sang at Orchestra Hall and the Radisson Hotel for the opening and closing of the award winning United Way campaign.
