Ron Hobart visited the Middle School as ttLouis Baron the 17th Century voyageur. He taught the sixth grade about LaSaIIe's discovery of the mouth of the Mississippi and all the hardships and challenges that were faced. Ron believes you can do anything in life you set out to do, and hopes to instill this in the young people he teaches. w www www w x x x wax- m, x ' v Wyn? ,M; xwwxwxwkw KITE DAY AT CARVER PARK , mg? For the first time, all choirs rehearsed over the entire academic year and performed at three seasonal Fine Arts Presentations. CHORUS 6 had the largest roster in its six-year history and prepared works ranging from Bergeris A Childis Book of Beasts to Flashdance. A feature of Norma Thomson's musical review was CHORUS 7-8 where they set the mood of the early 1960's with upbeat numbers by the Beach Boys and the Mamas and the Papas. CHORUS 7-8 went for Baroque this year by presenting works of Montiverdi, Handel and J.S. Bach. The Middle School CHORISTERS continued its tradition of 8 Midwest Spring Tour to South Bend, indiana iNotre Dame Universityy and Chicago ireturn trim and the preparation of challenging choral litera- ture including selections from Rossiniis Messe Solenne and a Medley from the Musical, Evita. A Faculty Choir, THE UPGRADED CHO- RALE, made its debut this year. Who could ignore their spirited rendition of Four Temperance Songs accompanied by the Bass Drum virtuoso, Jim Telander? 042w x V64 y 3 g W W, M, , NW, N, MMMMWMWMWWWWWWW - gowwyxwzrzmmm, m MM, f WWW ; x WW1 , W MIDDLE SCHOOL BANDS 1984 Conducted by Kay Hawley This year was an exciting year for the Middle School Bands. The 7-8 bands had a great 3-day band trip to the Fargo-Moorhead area, and the 6th grade band enjoyed their annual one day field trip performing concerts in the metro area. The Fall Fine Arts Presentation, homecoming, the solo and ensemble concert, the Upper School concert, guest conductors, the Spring Fine Arts Presentation, and the Sring Festival were other highlights of the year. Congratulations to the Middle School Bands for their musical contributions this year! s??vg 68 SPEECH AND DRAMA HALLOWEEN PARTY 70 'On the sixth grade fossil hunt we went out to a very muddy hill to twhat else?t hunt for fossils. We had been studying prehistoric life and fossils about two weeks before we left. It was raining the night before, so that's why the hill was so muddy. We got off the bus and walked up a road to a small stream and the hill. Whenever somebody found a fossil, it was exciting. We had plastic bags to put them in. When we got back on the bus, many a student had mud caked on their shoes and pants. We had a lot of fun! The fossils were from a tropical sea that once covered the Twin Cities. Can you believe it was like the Bahamas in Minnesota? FOSSILS c2. ,, .x, $9 Ink. 2?; wmww 71 Lam SNgw BOe-s N N u: . - ' CODPEMTION MAGu. Spdfs STEVE mus Runs um. ' MEKYL A MMQS UP!
