His helpfulness never ceasedg his patience never failed. Mr. Popp willingly gave his time to other various school projects and to any student seeking his counsel. We, the Blaire stafti express our thanks on behalf of the en- tire school. 4- In Appreciation On behalf of all seniors, the Blaire staff wishes to express its sincere gratitude to Mr. Robert Letso. Sewing as our senior class advisor, Mr. Letso worked diligently for the good of the senior class and cheerfully taught and entertained the seniors. In appreciation for everything that you do, we say thank you, Mr. Letso. 5 Foreword This yearbook needs little preface, a few words will be enough to introduce it. To the seniors, who are leaving, this book should be a simple mixture of pleasant memories from those carefree teenage years that can never be-really remembered and never for- gotten. The juniors, sophomores, and freshmen will probably think of it as an amusing gallery of faces, something to carry around with them for a while to serve as a convenient notepad for the great game of autograph-collecting. That's all right with us. We have looked through photographs, sorted them, captioned them, cut them down to size, attached to them a few bits of infor- mation, and arranged them all here with as much concern for good appearance as possible. We've enjoyed putting the yearbook together and we hope you have as much fun reading it. 6 . .,,. Don Doak Class Freshmen Year In l963,' as freshmen, we began our high school education. Full of expectations of what lay ahead of us in the years to come, we felt confident that we could overcome any obstacle that we might encounter. Chosen to lead the class during its freshmen year were: Dave Na- kles, presidentg Carol Fleming, vice-president, Sally Jo Cohen, secretaryg and Colette Valyo, treasurer. Under the guidance of Mr. Walter Carmo, we planned our freshmen activities. Our Junior Varsity football and basketball teams both faired well in their seasons, and the ninth grade wrestlers also made the class proud of them. The Student Council played an important part in our first year of high school, Tomm Meloy served as its president for the year. Highlighting the year was the Freshmen Hop entitled Shangrila. As freshmen we tried our best, looking forward to next year and the title of sophomores. Senior Class Advisor Mr. Robert Letso History Sophomore Year Moving to the new school was a great adjust- ment for all of the students. We were the first sophomore class to occupy the school. That year, our class advisor was Mrs. Mary F. Holby. Elec- tions for class officers were held early in the year so that the class could begin the projects that awaited us. Dave Nakles was elected president, Lloyd David, vice-presidentg our secretary was Colette Valyo, and Reesa Maxey served as trea- surer. Being active in sports, many boyslifted our school spirit by their fine playing and team work. The sophomores claimed positions in all five categories of sports: wrestling, football, bas- ketball, track, and golf. Chosen as beauty and brawn were Brenda Hutchison and Lloyd David. Our big event for the year was the Sophomore Hop in May with Sleepy Lagoon as our theme, trimmed in the shades of yellow, green, and brown. The year slipped by quickly, and before we realized it summer vacation was here. Junior Year Of course, summer doesn't last forever .and in September of 1965, we were back in school as the Junior Class. We had marked the halfway point of our high school days and were now rec- ognized as upper classmen. Our junior year promised to be very hard so we began working as soon as possible. Chosen as officers were: pres- ident, Dave Nakles, vice-president, Tomm Me- loyg secretary, Sally Jo Coheng and treasurer, Carol Fleming, under the direction of our advi- sor Miss Pauline Veschio. To boost our funds for the year, we took over the management of the football concession stand. Miss Veschio, Mrs. DeLuca, and Mrs. Antilok could be seen working hard on Friday evenings along with the juniors. We had a successful year in sports-the juniors co- operated to make up fine teams. Our class beauty for the year was Brenda Hutchison and our brawn, Lloyd David. On December l, we proudly presented our lirst class play, Pillow Talk, starring Sally Jo Cohen and Dave Nakles. Those nights at play practice will be hard to forget. Spring arrived and it was once again time for the annual Twirp Struggle. This was a great suc- cess with music furnished by the Epsilons . Nat- urally, Prom time came soon after and juniors could be seen hurrying to meetings of dilferent committees. Finally, the title Alpine Holiday was chosen and decorations were planned around that central theme. Our revolving clock as the gymnasium centerpiece was the main cen- ter of attraction. Decorated in the colors of blue, white, brown and green, the gym was admired by everyone. Music for the Prom was provided by the Top Hattersv and the group, Tom Collins and His Mixers , played for the after-prom par- ty. Two junior girls were elected to the Queen's Court, they were Carol Fleming and Brenda Hutchison. Every junior went home completely tired from two days work and one long night of dancing. Eight juniors were elected to the National Honor Society at the end of the year. They were: Colette Valyo, Sally Jo Cohen, Carol Fleming, Patrick Bennett, David Nakles, Sandra Sigafoes, Mary Ann Alt, and Tomm Meloy, who served as the 1966-67 NHS president. Our junior year closed with thoughts of the coming year and its responsibilities. Our final function as juniors was our class picnic at Key- stone. We were now prepared to spend the short summer months in anticipation of our senior year. Q Senior Year As seniors we had an entirely different view of school, one in which we attained all of our goals. To lead our class this year, the following ollicers were chosen: president, Dave Nakles, vice-presi- dent, Tomm Meloy, secretary, Carol Fleming, treasurer, Mary Ann Alt, and sgt. at arms, Don Doak. Our class advisor, Mr. Robert Letso, scheduled many cookie sales and a submarine sale at the beginning of the year to raise funds for our numerous projects. Our big event for the year was the Senior Ju- nior Party held in November. Twilight on the Waterfront was selected as our theme and the gymnasium decorated in shades of orchid, deep purple, and white. Providing the entertainment were the Youngbloods Our senior cheerleaders and majorettes deserve a vote of thanks for promoting our school spirit. The seniors on the cheerleading squad were: Donna Shrum, Linda Manarelli, Carol Fleming, and Sally Jo Cohen. Our majorettes were Sandra Ketner and Suzanne Stephens. Spurred on by the cheering crowds behind them, our Bobcats had victorious seasons in football, basketball, and wrestling. Our unique event occuring in the football sea- son was BSHS Homecoming. This was sponsored by the Student Council, whose president was Tomm Meloy. Brenda Hutchison was crowned the first Homecoming queen, while Brenda Bur- key and Sally Jo Cohen served as her court. The evening ended with an alumnae dance and a lot of reminiscing. In early February, play practice again began. This time our play was entitled Father Knows Best, starring Carol Fleming and John Biesinger. It was presented under the direction of Mr. H. Gerald Stahlman and our student director, Mau- reen Ficca. Again this year our class beauty and brawn were Brenda Hutchison and Lloyd David. Proving their abilities as members of the band and chorus, some seniors were invited to attend district, county, and state assemblies. These two organizations did much to raise the musical background of the school. So ends the chapter of another class-the class of 1967-our class. We will remember it with happiness and contentment and as a milestone in our lives, but everything lies ahead in the future. I don't think that you'll find that particular book in our library. The theme concerned the life of a teenage girl Maudie and her closest girl friends. Maudie is rather a head-strong girl, who feels that she has developed the perfect tech- nique for attracting boy friends and doesn't hesitate to advise her sister and girl friends to follow her example. Maudie was portrayed by Janice McMil- leng Davy, her boyfriend, by Gerard Farrell.
