When you graduate, the part you will remember most is the fun you had in school, participating in clubs, assemblies and especially, the friends you made. These extra-curricular activities will highlight your memories in the years to come, and you will say along with the rest of us, My school days were the happiest days of my life. That is why, in this 1955 Blaire, we have decided to show you the brighter side of school life, and what way would be more natural than to show you the bright side of many lives, at a Circus! When you think of it, cati't you com- pare the circus to school? Don't the seventh and eighth graders remind you of the peanut gallery, spectators, yet participators? Any Senior will tell you that the Senior Class con- tains the Star-performers of the school. We, the Blaire Staff, hope to make this 1955 Blaire the crowning achievement of our '31 ,f as i'Q fd l , . The Board of Education The Board of Education of Blairsville Joint Jr. - Sr. High School is composed of a body of men elected for their civic-mindedness and their unfailing interest in the student body. The competent officers for this year were Mr. Thomas McClure, President, and Mr. Henry Graff, Vice-President. A non-member, Miss Mildred Muir, acts asacapable sec- retary for the group. Meeting the second Monday of every month, the school board decides upon the policies to be adopted in our school and keeps our school efficient with modern supplies and a pro- gressive educational program. One of their many projects this year was the purchase of new fluorescent lights for the Third Ward Building. We, the class of 1955, wish to extend our sincere appreciation and gratitude to this group of men for all they have done to make our years at Blairsville Joint School happy ones. Barbara Cobes and Janie Miller acted as co-editors and Mary Ann Lutton was the business manager. Four hundred and fifty copies of the paper were distributed to the student subscribers, teachers, advertisers, school directors and district high school exchange departments under the leader- ship of these three people. Special holiday editions and a six page senior edition near the end of the year were the result of the combined efforts of the staff and the printer, which was once again the Blairsville Dispatch. The policy of the paper is to encourage free expression of honest student opinion, to report Blairsville High School events accurately and to aid in creating a more vigorous school spirit. 1' ' L I v 1 I U I ll f I lr lf I 1 ll ll I A-7T3,f-,QA nfx SHG '71 Q45 X 11, in gl X Qxxi Q L 2,3 K1-M22 2 o3.,fK,ix,?K 'ijxx '21,,,'K f1aNC K YKN, Q., 'ij' in Q i? 52 AN 9 5 fi: Geac CY qv., 'HQ V h if . After working hard run- ning the concession at the football games, they held their first dance, The Halloween Dance after the Leechburg foot- ball game. The year rolleu on, and the Juniors held the semi-formal Christmas Dance, A Midnight Sleighride. In April the girls chased the boys and eventually dragged them to the Twirp Struggle. Also in April the class staged the fabulous Junior Viariety Show, Fantasies of 56 featuring characters from Mother Goose. In May, things were hectic again, as these students pre- pared for the event of the year - the Prom with Brad Hunt's Orchestra, dreamy decorations, and a wonderful time for all. The year came to an end. Gone, but not forgotten. For this Junior year will long be remembered by everyone in the Class of '56. Those fans who followed the football team throughout the season, saw a tough, hard fighting, vigorous squad of players. The coaching staff and the season's record weren't the only changes this year. A bright spot, at the one end of the field was very notice- able. Yes, after years of planning there was our new electric scoreboard put into use. The Cats started off the season with a tie against Wilmerding, which eliminated them from W, P, I. A.L, play. Starting to catch fire, they rolled over their next three opponents. Included in this was rival, Derry Twp. As the season progressed the gridiron players dropped three in a row - two close ones to rivals Indiana and Homer City. Many saw the ,Bobcats stop Leech- burg for their final win of this memorial grid- iron season. In an extra game they went on to tie one and outplay, but not outscore the big Canonsburg squad. This season has ended with both the specta- tors and players having many unforgettable memories. J im Dilts T Right Tackle 4-ff '5 Bob Shoop ,Q Quarterback xx Ray McDonald Right Guard N' ff:-4 va? On the top of the list, where it comes to sporting a good record, our grunt and groaners continued this practice this season. Much of the success of awrestling team depends upon the team, but more so on the coach .... Mr. Luchsinger, take a bowl This year's record does not match that of last year, but the ability was there, and in just as able a force. Of all the sports in our high school, the largest turn out always shows up here. We have a fine group of boys who slave for hours in the back room, worry about sweating off a few pounds before the match, and are intent on doing one thing .... getting out and winning. Many hours of hard work have gone into making this, the 1955 Blaire. Shortly before school ended last year the new staff, with co-editors Pat Colench and Beverly Bennett, met to Choose the theme. Early this fall the advertising campaign got off to a big start headed by Advertising Manager, Betz Boone and Patricia Gilmore, Business Manager. Through the artistic ability of Beverly, our theme was put in black and white. Sandra Miller donated her time to covering the sports. We hope that you, the student body, willenjoy looking through this Blaire as much as we have enjoyed making it. THE STAFF Pat Colench 8: Bev Bennett .........
