The students who serve as assistants to Mr. Effross and Mrs. Ovens have an opportunity to become familiar with office procedures, which is particularly advantageous to students enrolled in the commercial course. The office force has the responsibility of various duties. Students participating on the force also have an opportunity to gain valuable aid in learning to meet people. Such affiliations are of great importance in leadership training. One of its greatest undertakings has been the in- auguration of the National Honor Society into the school. The Student Council has high ideals and is mainly concerned with the better- ment of Blairstown High School. The council contributes greatly to the recreational activities of the school by sponsoring movies, dances and assemblies. Another ofthe main undertakings ofthe 1957-1958 Student Council was the cam- paign to purchase a high-fidelity phonograph, records, and a record holder, which have recently been purchased. As a result of the campaign, the Parent-Teacher Association aided the council with the purchase of the high-fidelity equipment. The 1957-1958 Student Council has been a truly successful organization. Miss Fee also participated in the Northern New Jersey Operatic Festival. Participating in the Parent-Teacher's Association Christmas Program, working with the band in the annual Spring Concert, and providing assemblies for the high school are some of the activities in which the Glee Club parti- cipates.
