Ninth Grade Class Prophecy Good evening, this is your on-the-spot reporter from KORN broadcasting from Blair Junior High School. With me is John Schonk, our cameraman. Mr. Ricky Cooper has recently resigned his principalship, and the job is now open to Mr. Tadius Johnston and Mr. Louis Lazo. I am here to catch a glimpse of the fierce competition. Here comes Mr. Johnston with his private secretary, Blanche Stewart. Sir, I'm wondering if I could get a statement from you. H Certainly , Folks, Mr. Johnston is wearing a handsome black silk graduation robe and carrying his diploma. Sir, could you tell us your purpose in wearing this robe? Elementary, dear fellow. I propose to illustrate my qualifications by wearing this significant attire. As is apparent, I graduated from Harvard University first in my class. Thank you, sir, for your enlightening statement. Well, folks, there we have it, as told from the unmistakable Mr. Tadius Johnston. Ah, I see Louis Lazo approaching on his Boerner 500 motorcycle. Give me 'five' man? Good afternoon, sir. I understand you plan to try to appeal to the kids in your campaign. Right on, 'brudder'. Man, we 're gonna have music over the intercom, coke machines in the halls, abolish the dress code, fifteen minute breaks between classes--oh, I see it's 4:00. I gotta split. I gotta date with a chick. Vicki Larson, yeah--she's a swinger! See ya later, man! Let's leave Louis Lazo, and join the noted personalities of the Blair Class of '72 at the famous Hazelette Do-nut Dinett located between David Pyle's Poodle Parlor and an exlusive dress shop owned by Vicky Shelley and Theresa Gahan. As I enter the Dinett, I see Joni Yoder and Donita Jones serving Ricky's tasty pastry, and I hear the voice of Kinnethia Craig blaring from the jukebox. On the walls I see portraits of those who have been named to the Sports Hall of Fame: the Plante brothers, Anthony Davis and Wade Lathan. I recognize Bolling Dey and Howard Porter, the Spanish professors at ODU, and there's Bobby Park, the Algebra teacher sitting with them. There's my comrad Jeri Jens interviewing Kim Mullins, the new Pulitzer Prize winner, who has recently written a biography of the well-known ballet star Madamoiselle Barbie Bruno. Now the local social worker, Debbie Farrell has stopped in to chat before she leaves on her next assignment. As I glance out of the window, I see Vanessa Johnson, the P, E. teacher, jogging past. Conrad Kruger has just arrived announcing that he has been commissioned to paint the ceil- ing of Scope. A Outside the dinette, Chris Miller is peddling his papers which announce that the transit system, owned by David McManus, has again raised its rates because of increased vandalism on the busses. The newspaper also con- tains Miriam Percival's gossip column in which she informs us that the international playboy, Will Hopkins, has just left on his yacht for his ninth cruise around the world. There's also a picture of Patricia Pearson, famous ani- mal breeder, who has discovered a new strain of white mice. A special bulletin, folks! News has just reached us that Mary Pond's latest book has been universally ac- claimed as the most authoritative and comprehensive study ever written on the arts of tact and diplomacy. Well, folks, the crowd is beginning to disperse here at the dinette, our cameraman has just run out of film, and it's time for the 11 :OO news. We'd better be signing off now--until tomorrow, this is your on-the-sport reporter from KORN news. Goodnight. Jeri Jens Mary Pond David Pyle 25
