Dear Mr. Armer: Many students have passed through the portals of B.H.S. taking with them memories of classes and the teachings of their instructors. We have considered you to be one of the outstanding instructors of our school. Although sometimes when we may not have appeared to be too attentive, we realize that you have tried to teach us Government, Law, and Social Problems, along with neatness, power of concentration and cour- tesy. Outside of class, you have proved to be popular with the students of Blair High. For instance, your cooperation with after-hours work on tenn papers and the gatherings at your hometo meet the twelve o-clock deadline. For being our friend and helping us over our rough spots, we wish to express our appreciation by dedi- cating the 1959 TATTLER to you. EARL PACE Superintendent P rincipal A man who, working with our school board, has maintained and strengthened the prestige and honor of this school which we proudly call OUR school. A man who deserved and received the respect and admiration of the entire student body. We'11 always remember his office with its cheerful mottos, showing the ease with which he handled his students. a MRS. DAVID BIDSTRUP Office Secretary She made qoinq to the Superintendent's office not half so bad. Faculty Wayne Armer: World History: Probs: Boy's Physical Education: Girl's Basketball: Senior Class. As long as you spelled the name right, he didn' t care what you said about him. His assignments may have been hard, but maybe you leamed something from them. Helen Bosley: Home Economics: F.l-LA.: Pep Club: Junior Class. She was a swell teacher said all of the girls and they really meant it. But when she got behind the wheel of her little bugwagon she was a born hotrodder. Kenneth Fischer: Driver Education: Football Coach: L.ette1man's Club: Athletic Director. Most of us remember him for his sermons on pep rallies. They may have sounded bad to us, but they did some good. May- be the teachers ought to start using them. Mary Caddock: Biology: Chemistry: Science Club. On the whole she knew more about science than anyone in high school except Mr. Kelly. But on the other hand she could keep quite a beat to a Hula Hoop. Gordon Hill: English. Mr. Hill taught us three subjects: English, Liter- ature, and a soldier's experience in Japan. He was the teacher who helped get the lowa Tests, but you got out of classes didn't you? . 1' ,ff 1 , K f . The freshmen learned all about eighth periods from him. Mabel Krause: Latin: Libraryy English. Put your shoulder to the wheel and get the situation mastered was the best advice Mrs. Krause gave you and it was found to be very good advice when used. Pat Mallette: Industrial Arts. Mr. Mallette must have been very ambitious for he walked from school to his home every noon. Which one of us would walk if we could ride. The girls say, if he was just a little younger. ' slinton Nelson: Speech: Junior English: Senior Class Play: Junior Class lay. If you saw a Senior excitedly looking for statistics, he was prob- ably making a speech for Mr. Nelson. In what other assignment would he go to that much trouble? Jenny Nelson: School Nurse: F'.N.A. The only time you saw her was when you were sick, or needed an excuse to get out of school. You can thank her for accepting your excuses when you played hookie. , V FV ,- WQN AM Faculty Jerry Rainforth: American History: World Geography, Economics, Basket- ball Coach: Intramurals. A good man in his early flirtys. He was a swell coach with a ruddy smile, especially when we won. And then there were always history tests. A. E. Rembold: Instrumental Music. Next year his band will be as good as Mendez. Although they might not be that good, they've given us plenty of entertainment and without Mr. Rembold they would sound pretty sour. Catherine Sorensen: Mathematics. A genius with classroom displays. She illustrated any mathematical law. And she had a way oi looking at us that made us sit up and listen. fl QQA James Thompson: Bookkeepingy Business Arithmetic: Junior Business: Business Law: Junior Class. If you didn't listen to directions, then you probably got into trouble with Mr. Thompson. When he towered over you, you knew you weren' t as big as you thought you were. Douglas Switzner: Vocational Agricultureg F'.F'.A. Freshman Class. If y'all were from Oklahoma, by hoopie you had something in common with Mr. Switzner. The kids said he ran the meanest study hall in school. lbs. 5 if, l, Hugh Thomas: Vocal Music. Here is some competition for Mr. Thompson in the skyscraper department. If you went to the Christmas concert you know what the students do in the first period of the day. Elizabeth Sackz. Commercial: Informer. You probably saw her hurrying around the halls with a look as if she were getting something done. Well, she probably was. She had a paper to get out. Despite the fact that the team bowed down to defeat, it was one of the most important events of the year. Along with the bonfire rally, the high rivalry of the game, and the pomp and glory of the corona- tion, it turned out to b e an exciting evening for the faculty and students Th . e highlight of the evening came with th e corwning of the royalty: Queen Margaret Anderso n and King Ken Short, along with their attendants Frances Corwin, Jean Bednar, Roger Lippincott, and Kent Howard. xl' IIAII Dressed Upll Svleet . r nPr.in't Theyjulie Flsche ' T ipxevt Gnd stefan from Y Hctownbe KING KENNY QUEEN MARGARET Man or Monkey? i DW? cis' - Q lllxkoxnn F GW ei? The success of their play proved their work was worthwhile. The Junior Class gives a hearty thanks to those members of their class, namely, Betty Springer, Jan Dudley, Karen Jensen, Cynthia Bellows, Jerry Brunk, Bruce Suver- krubbe, Merri Allen, Carolyn Stokes, and to others who made Family Circle a success. A special thanks goes to Mr. Nelson who directed the play and its production. Can 'They be Heal? They were the members of the senior class play including Robert Lingo, Sue Hansen, Georgia Wilson, Marilyn Ladwig, Margaret Anderson, Neal Sievers, Carol Schmidt, Mardell Webster, Kay Kubie, Ronnie Jensen, Eugene Sorensen, Ann Bennett, Sharon Clements, Dick Vinton, David Snowbeck, Maxine Dolleck, Judy Hineline, and Ardith Dolleck. They presented The House on the Cliff, a mystery comedy in three acts. To quote one of the cast, We worked something awful. ' The result of their work, however, proved to be one of the finer plays presented by a Senior class. Mr. Nelson again did an excellent job at directing and supervising. As last year, the band again attended the State Fair. There they were pleasantly surprised by Raphael Mendez, who dedicated a number to them. Citizens and students of Blair were delighted on such occasions asp football and basketball games, Kommunity Kapers, and P.T.A. meetings where the band or band groups appeared. For giving of time and service and outstanding directorship, Mr. Bembold was presented an award sponsored by First Chair, an organization that recognizes outstanding bands of schools in the U.S., by Principal Earl Pace at the annual winter concert. Everybody agreed there wasn' t a man more deserving. The highlights of the year were the spring concert with guest soloist, Baphael Mendez, and contest with all of its butterflies and qualms.
