Vikings Fight for a Winning Season Thw years VardtyfootbaHteantonce again fought its way to a winning season. Under the direction of Coach Herb Robin- son and assistant coaches Ben Steelhead, Gerald Scholes, and Lou Riley. The Vikings con1pHed a 6-5 record and reached yet another C.LF.berth. The preseason began with a 34-8 rout over Sdesmn Phgh School The VHdngs went on to defeat Bonita I4-O and Hoover 35-I7. After a week of tough preparation, Blair faced cross-town rival, Muir High School. The loss of two maior players. through injury, made it obvious the Vi- kings were not at full strength. The game was aseesaw batde asthelead changed back and forth.'The Adustangs eventuaHy won 25-20. on their final series of downs. The players emotions were lowered after the loss. and the following week the Vi- kings lost to Redondo Union 22-2l, on the last play of the game. The Vikings showed an uncanny ability to overcome their losses as they opened the league play with a 22-7 victory over La Canada. Blair then went on to face a high- ly ranked Temple City team. The game wastwd'L7,buttheRanwtookadvantage of Blair penalties as they went to win 2l-7. The Vikings faced a tough San Marino squad the following week. They did not let penahiesgetthebestofthen1thBthne,as they were only charged with 2 the entire game. Blair also displayed great running and pasmng quahues asthey won 2L6 Blair's only other league loss came to the Rio Hondo Champions, Monrovia High School. ln their final league game and Homecoming, Blair defeated South Pasa- dena l8-6. The win took a C.l.F. berth from South Pasadena.and gave Bhh'a thnd Mace spotin theleague standings The Vikings were once again iinxed as theylostto atough Canyon High Schoo team 4l-20.
