Culture Learned and Experienced Out of the many organizations at Blair High, M.E.C.H.A. is one of the oldest and most dedicated to cultural learning. Mo- viento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlan's main goal is to organize and unite the Hispanic community. Throughout the years the club has encour- aged its members to become involved in their school and community. M.E.C.H.A. members sponsored a profit- able fundraising campaign. The campaign was launched with a dance, car wash, and candy sales. ln honor of Cinco de Mayo mem- bers helped A.S.B. organize an assembly to commemorate this holiday. Advisor Mr. Aaron Sotello has motivated members to become interested in their his- panic culture and to share their knowledge with the student body. Pride Of The Latinos Though the Latino American Student Association began over ten years ago, it is still a very influential and active part of the school. The club's main purpose is to help members unite and share cultural heritage. L.A.S.A. organized several ac- tivities this year that were held with great success. These events included the L.A.S.A. Homecoming Dance, a very wet carwash and a delicious candied apple sale. These activities allowed the club to raise enough money for their Graduation Ball. Once again, Mr. lbarra, the advisor. with the help of every member of the club made this year's long efforts result in the unification of the Latin Americans at Blair. Row I: Febronio Bugarian. The Performing Arts Hit a High Note Pick any day during lunchtime to visit the Drama and Chorus room on campus and you will find the room filled with sweet Harmonious voices of BIair's presti- gious chorus, directed by Mr. James Co- day, The group performed at various ho- tels, clubs and churches with their major shows being the annual Christmas concert in the winter, and Kaleidoscope in the spring. Enrollment in the Drama classes was low. and ineligibility lists further depleted class size. Due to this situation. the year was used mainly as a learning and growing period. Though many plays were re- hearsed, few were performed.
