Undoubtedly many people don't use proper grammar, but which is more important: what is said, or how it is said? Emphasis in most classes was placed on developing the mind to a level of under- standing beyond the surface. Delving into what may have seemed an unimportant episode in a book and coming up with a totally new and meaningful interpretation, I 1 I I I .D F .4 E , was the goal teachers set for most their students. Not all people relished the idea of having to write deep, insightful essays, but to those who successfully completed the task, came the rewards of a satisfied mind and a commendable grade. When someone is able to communicate on virtually every level of thought, no door can be closed to him. As this year departs, with it goes another group of people who attest to the success of Blair's English De- partment in attaining its goals. Every student is required to take a full eight se- mesters of social science. From ninth grade urban problems and world geography to twelfth grade govern- ment and behavioral science, the depart- ment offered a well balanced education.
