Tennis Led B Underclassmen The varsity tennis team was made up of an abundance of young talent. They were led by Peter Gertmenian, a junior as first singles, and Russ Decker, a sophomore as second singles. The Vikings also had two great doubles combinations with Nick Woods and Philip Kramer, and John Peter- son and Henry Willis. Once again the Vikings were placed in the extremely competitive Rio Hondo league. Facing five very tough teams in- cluding La Canada and San Marino. Coach Charles Lamb expects to have, yet an- other winning season. He knows that his team is young, but more important, he knows that they have a great deal of tal' ent. As long as the team plays to their full potential they should qualify for a C.l.F. playoff birth. The junior varsity, also directed by coach Lamb, should have a successful sea- son. The team had alot of alternates, with over 25 players coming out this year. They were led by Yuichi Handa, Chris Brandt, and younger brother Patrick Brandt. CJ St. Francis City S. RUNNING TO VICTOR Y The key to the i984 track team was the one-hundred percent commitment of ev- ery team member to strive for excellence to be number one. The track team, who was led by Coach Don Molloy and assisted by Coach Ben Steelhead Sr., enforced hard work outs, which seemed to pay off. The physical preparation for competition came alive when the track team ran against their well matched opponents from the Rio Hondo League. As for strong points, Sam Morgan led in sprints, Harry Johnson led in hurdles, Suresh Krishnan led in distance. An impressive relay team was composed of Darryl Austin, Darryl Harvey, Sam Morganjand Chris Martin. As the season began, there was much optimism for a successful team. Victory came against cross-town rivalry, P.H.S. and those hopes were secured. The team members displayed talent and potential during the season. As the first invitational track meet came, the overall points gave Blair a remarkable victory over the ten schools that competed. With the individ- ual performance of every team member, the l984 track team was one of the better teams that Blair has produced. As the sea- son ended, Blair had taken another league championship. The Soph-Frosh team displayed as much enthusiasm as the Varsity team, and pos- sesed potential and talent as well. The most promising members on the Soph- Frosh team were Anthony Beaty, Doug Galindo, and Pat Bodenshot. f.j ' ' f .-,K '-r v. . K ' ' vcd-., 'V '- . -sf-, .. -, L. -- fs.,-N . ,, A ,- 5. .51 - ..
