u i ings Through the years, the music and dra- ma departments have slowly deteriorat- ed. This situation does in no way reflect the dedication of the teachers. Though evolving slowly, but now apparent, the lack of participation by the student body has taken its toll on the department. Mr. Abdoo is the third band director to come to Blair in the past three years. His Last year, thirty-eight seniors graduat- ed from Mr. Coday's choir and drama classes. This sudden depletion produced a discouraging effect at the beginning of the year, but it was quickly overcome by successful performances. Revisions in tra- ditional ideas were made to compensate for the size and newness of the groups. With over 402 of the student body be- ing of foreign origin, the ESL CEnglish as a Second Languagej department is especial- ly strong. Classes in Chinese, as well as Spanish, are available for those students who have not yet obtained total command of the English language. Another program. though much less in demand. nonetheless. desired, is that of JROTC. Uunior Recruit Officer's Training Corpsb. This group of approximately 30 members meets as a regular class, but may also be found at lunch or after school polishing up their skills. Boasting this extensive schedule of programs, Blair goes above and beyond the fundamentals of education to provide students with the special services they deserve. lndustrial Art and Art are often classes which are overlooked. But, if taken seri- ously. these classes offer excellent voca- tional training. Various works of art have been seen in the Saga, Star News, and the North Star. Some drafting students have received honors in several structural de- sign contests. Much time, effort, and thought go into these works of art. It takes a special kind of person to be able to put their feelings and creative abilities to work.
