Biology may fade from memory, and geography may not seem important even if it could be remembered, but because it is used day after day as a necessary means of commu- nication, the English education received at Blair will stick with you throughout your life, for those who accept it. .r-..- pect of the English Department. Perhaps the Department objective should be clear- ly definedl Undoubtedly many people don't use proper grammar, but which is more important: what is said, or how it is said? Emphasis in most classes was placed on developing the mind to a level of under- standing beyond the surface. Delving into what may have seemed an unimportant episode in a book and coming up with a totally new and meaningful interpretation, iff was the goal teachers set for most their students. Not all people relished the idea of having to write deep, insightful essays, but to those who successfully completed the task, came the rewards of a satisfied mind and a commendable grade. When someone is able to communicate on virtually every level of thought, no door can be closed to him. As this year departs, with it goes another group of people who attest to the success of Blair's English De- partment in attaining its goals. I I I I I I I I I I 1 1 I Q 3 Q l U Ill!
