Swimmers Led By Seniors This year's varsity swim team followed the footsteps of swim teams past. Once again our team was led mainly by seniors. Outstanding performances were turned in by Brad Pickering in the breaststroke and freestyle. Kevin Turk in the back- stroke and freestyle, Victor Gallardo in the backstroke and butterfly, Ain Cocke in the freestyle, and Craig Piper in the freestyle and backstroke. The team also had some very strong underclassmen. Keith Sherry turned in excellent times in the backstroke, while Julio Gallud excelled in the distance freestyles and the butter- fly, and Robbie Hendrix did well in the freestyle, butterfly, and the breaststroke. With all of their great individual efforts the team still had troubles. Swim meets are won by a compiling of team points. The Vikings won many races but due to the lack of members, lanes were not filled, thus causing Blair to lose the meets. The Junior Varisty team had the same problems that our varsity had. While great preformances were turned in by Jon Bo- denshot. Wes Lake, Sean Boyd, Chris Moore. and Eric Oberholtzer, the team lost meets because of their lack of com- petitors. Coach Pat McCummins saw a lot of tal- ent in this year's junior varsity. She is hop- ing that these swimmers will again come out next year. She knows that if she can recruit more swimmers for next year we will have a very strong team, a team that will achieve many team victories as well as individual victories.
