ANO THER WINNING SEASON Due to the fact that Blair won the Rio Hondo League Championship last year and were returning nine of their starters, they were expected to do very well. Blair started off on the right track by defeating seven of their first nine oppo- nents. After key victories over Muir and Glendale, the team went on to take third place in the Eisenhower Soccer Classic. The Vikings were then ready to enter the tough Rio Hondo League. Blair was one of four Rio Hondo teams to be ranked in the top ten of CIF competition. These rankings proved competitive as Blair lost their league opener to another ranked team - La Canada. The Team then pushed number eight ranked South Pasa- dena to a I-I draw. The Vikings got back on track by defeating San Marino and the sixth ranked Monrovia Wildcats. The first round ended with a 2-2 tie with Temple City. Blair opened the second round with losses to La Canada and South Pasadena and a tie with San Marino. Blair then de- feated first place Monrovia and Temple City to keep their CIF hopes alive. The team was led on offense by Paul Bodenshot, Eddie Perez, and Matt Inman. On defense were all league candidates Roger Krieg, Joe Bogaard, Sam Puffin- burger and goalie Jeff Koch. Tennis Led B Underclassmen The varsity tennis team was made up of an abundance of young talent. They were led by Peter Gertmenian, a iunior as first singles. and Russ Decker, a sophomore as second singles. The Vikings also had two great doubles combinations with Nick Woods and Philip Kramer. and John Peter- son and Henry Willis. Once again the Vikings were placed in the extremely competitive Rio Hondo league. Facing five very tough teams in- cluding La Canada and San Marino. Coach Charles Lamb expects to have, yet an- other winning season. He knows that his team is young, but more important, he knows that they have a great deal of tal- ent. As long as the team plays to their full potential they should qualify for a C.l.F. playoff birth. The junior varsity, also directed by coach Lamb, should have a successful sea- son.
