Foreword To the Alumnus, the Goldenrod is but a reminder of happy days and pleasant ways spent in Blair School. If for him, it will bind the past more closely to thief present, and retain for the School his loyal support, then it has not failed. To the Senior, the Annual is a more or less faithful chronicle of events of the most interesting year of the four in his ,high school career. Here are recorded in part, the joys and disappointments, the vic- tories and defeats. Through it all runs the thread of our hopes and ideals, indicating the ever present desire to measure up in full to the best traditions of the past and to raise still higher the standards of Blair School. .LJJI Z4 ,y 833' .iff I X JZ1,TI.AiQQJ:x,J'1i.-' I 7 -YAJ'Jiff1J r J 'LA I ..x-1-gig X-X 4 1 A :ami-xa,J -AA'-' v 5 M F- A If 9 -H c. Dedication T0 OUR PARENTS To you, whose eyes have closely watched us, While we journeyed- through our school days, While we traversed fields of knowledge While we sounded depths of thinking. To you, who warned and planned, and counsel'd And -despaired with us our losses When we tried the craft of sportsmen When we learned the laws of gaming. To you, who seconded our efforts Encouraged, cautioned, or advised us When we strove to show our spirit In some sort of youthful prowess. To you, who warned and planned, and coiunsel1'd That our bodies might be healthy That our minds be fresh for problems Coming every day before us. To you, dear folks, with all affection, We dedicate this little bookletj Glad at Jast to put in writing, Words that in our hearts lqng whispered. 5 N I s 49 sf 4, l L ........ ......- 1.-4. -...-.- .......,-.... .....-...........- Historu of Blair Public School The building, now occupied by the grades, was built in 1908. This modern school was placed under the supervision of Supt. Knowlin and Prof. Rowe as Principal. That year eight teachers were employed and an eight months term was taught. The school term 1909-10, a Prof. Wills was elected Supt. and Prof. Baldwin as his assistant. This proved that Blair School was destined to become one of the best schools in the county. Many improvements were made during that year. The greatest of improvements was made during the next two years 1910-'11-'12 with E. E. Dale as Supt. and Ural A. Rowe as principal. Blair ranked in all school activities including athletics and debating. The next years 1912-'13-'14, other great changes were made, with Supt. A. M. Whorton, Profs. Mack Heath and EJ M. Early as prin- cipalsj In 1917-'18-'19, J. L. Jessie was Supt. and Prof. Hardy principal the first year. Mrs. Maymie Rollins was principal the second year. J. L. Tucker was found at the head of the school during the year 1919-'20,, and J. Fred Eaker las his principal. Every one was intrested and made the best of the opportunities that were put before them. The years 1920-'21-'22 found J. Fred Eaker as Supt., and Bertha L. Marlin as principal. Many things were accomplished during these years. In 1922-'23, J. B. Owens was at the head of the school, and J. Fred Eaker was principal. The year of 1923-'24 has been very successful under the supervi- sion of Supt. S. E. Spann and principal Mrs. S. E. Spann. A number of changes have been made this year for the betterment of our school. It has been made a superior model school. Let us hope that Blair school will prosper in future years, as it has in the past. 4... .. .... - ... .. -1. ... -..- -...-.-----.--u-....1..1.1.-. .- .. -.- -. as ....--.si-an-1-,....cn.,., 6 . f 1 A' P101 , 1. -me cs,o1aen Roafsfag Editor-Irgne Walker, Business Mgr.-George Velmvn. If a Junior meets a Senior Coming' thru the hallg If a Senior meets a Junior, Need a Junior bawl, For eve-ry Senior was a Junior Just a year agog And every Junior will be a Senior In a year Or So. Literatu A box and pie supper was given Halloween, in the auditorium, a splendid prqogram was rendered, after which a large number of boxes and pies were sold, netting 'S72.00. The proceeds were used to continue the work on the auditorium, which had just been opened at that time. The junior class play, The Kingdom of Heart's Content, was presented November 22, at the Palace Theater. lt came off in splendid style, and every one present declared it a big success. The Sock Social, given November 28, 'was one of the biggest events of thezyear. Un this occasion 2869.00 was collected, which was also used 'tor repairs needed. Sometime latcr in thc year, the Beauty Contest was held, approximately 590.00 was received. This sum was used to pay on the piano, that has been bought this year. Among the noted speakers and entertainers, who have visited our school are, Thomas Iilmore Lucey and Dr. Charles Evans. We are always glad to have such men, because they are doing every thing in their power to build up the schools of America. The cliapels during this year have been instructive as well as interesting. One of the most interesting, was supelvised by Rev. Butcher, the story of joseph being dramatized. The Sophomores' play Prairie Rose, given at the auditorium April 13, was in every way a success. M-any things have been done about our school this year, among them are, the opening of the auditorium, the building of the stage, the placing of piano in school and the let- ting of grass, 'flowers and shrubs on the grounds. The Junior-Senior Banquet given, April 14, in the auditorium was, indeed, a great success. -, ,,, .. ... 14, 1 45.4. 5... 1-15: -,--re qs,-un:::,:-:un an- ' 'I' -X Q7 'J ,N CV! fkblf ' Q 'Ry X .Nj f fi.- f My ik X, 6 f SENIQR ns WW ' W Last will and, Testament of Senior Class On a winter morn of 1924 I took it upon myself to carry out the task the Seniors had delegated to me to do, namely, to carry in my memory all cherished possessions and relies that we as Seniors, had, anything to don within the last four years of our existence in the High School, and to instruct a most worthy judge as to what should be done with these cherished relics. ' I left my home at the accustomed hour of 8:45 A. M. but instead of going on the well trodden path which leads to the sohool house, I proceeded in the direction of Judge 1. M. Learned's ofice. just as 1' was climbing the marble stairs approaching his judicial apartments, a sound fell upon my ear, it was no other than the seven minute to nine warn- ing bell. 1 -rushed into ua room and saw before me, behind a massive desk, the all worthy judge. I've come to have you draw up the will of the class of '24 , I hurriedly said. I-Pe took up a lengthy str-ip of parchment and was prepared to take my first words. The bell, I slaid, as the familiar sound still reechoed in my ears, the old school bell. We'll leave that to the future generations who have so far to go in the morning after hearing its persuasive sound. Next, worthy judge, Willie, Watson has instructed me to leave his privilege off being late in the morning to Ewell Rose. Clarice Watson and Mary Marlin say that their traditional chew of gum is still re- posing where any person who needs exefrcise of the jaws can find it and let me see-Oh, yesl Woodrow Lance wants his position as janitor left to Herbert Pernell, who has shown his skill along that line. Ina Jarnagin bequeaths his oratorical powers to Horace jones, and Robert Lowry his debating abilities to Price Watson. Annie Heflin leaves to Gaylon Oliver her conver- sational tactics and asks that they will not be used in vain. We leave to Elta Shields-fthe first seat in the 'fourth row, and Oh, yesl there my tears fell thick rand fast.J Irene Walker leaves to'I-Iazel Butchee the ditorship of an An- nual that may be published in 1925, and all of us leave seats in the Senior room, our text books, land the marks in themj the dictionary, or both of them, and the old paper shelf. We leave those to the students of the class of 1924-'25.
