fe F U l Foreign Exchange student Gale Abbott American Field Service A. F. S. originated in 1914 when a group of Americans in Paris formed an ambulance service, which during World War I, carried more than 500, 000 wounded. In 1939, the A.F. S. was re- activated to serve in the second war. After the war, the international scholarship program was founded to further extend the A. F. S. tradition of world under- standing and service. Foreign students from twenty-three countries spend a year in American homes. A. F. S. also sends American students abroad on the summer exchange student program. Teenagers 16 to 17 years of age and juniors in high school are eligible to apply. A summer adventure abroad opens doors to new hori- zons, knowledge, understanding, and peace. Perhaps the greatest of these is peace as expressed in the A. F. S. motto - Wa1k together, talk together, O ye peoples of the earth: then and only then shall ye have peace. x
