This year for the first time, the Bee Hive staff is composed of underclassmen as well as seniors, The purpose of this new arrange- ment is to create the feeling that this year- book belongs to the entire student body, rather than to the senior class alone. As the constitution of the United States begins with We the people, let our Bee Hive begin with We the students - Each of us one small part of the whole, all con- tributing to making our days at James Blair ones that we will want to remember, XX 'S I I Table of Contents Foreword Classes Dedication Activities Faculty Sports Seniors Advertisements -S X V V 1 Dedication We, the class ur yearbook to Mr Sameul Patton. As our coa h h ' of '59, dedicate this o , c e instilled in us a fin spirit a d er school n encouraged us to support our athletic team, He was always interested in the student body and ready to help us in any of our various act' ' ' ivities. In addition to his work as coach he spear-headed the drive to obtain lights for our ath- letic field, He also was a director of the Youth Center, Although Coach Patton ' is no longer at James Blair we still feel his influence and this dedicat' ' ion is an expression of our appreciation to him. She has devoted many years to the Williamsburg-James City County Schools and through her wise coun- selling has inspired countless students to continue their studies and pursue the courses for which they are best fitted. Her interesting classes have stimulated her students to further activity in seeking extra material beyond regular class work. Miss H811 has sponsored many civic activities including community council and the Youth Center. She is a member of the James Blair faculty who will be long remem- bered. L - - .xv Q wiv? N R 'rs ea . S. originated in 1914 when a group of Americans in Paris formed an ambulance service, which during World War I, carried more than 500, 000 wounded. In 1939, the A.F. S. was re- activated to serve in the second war. After the war, the international scholarship program was founded to further extend the A. F. S. tradition of world under- standing and service. Foreign students from twenty-three countries spend a year in American homes. A. F. S. also sends American students abroad on the summer exchange student program. Teenagers 16 to 17 years of age and juniors in high school are eligible to apply. A summer adventure abroad opens doors to new hori- zons, knowledge, understanding, and peace. Perhaps the greatest of these is peace as expressed in the A. F. S. motto - Wa1k together, talk together, O ye peoples of the earth: then and only then shall ye have peace. x Betty Io Cowles, Ronnie Stewart, Bill Bowry, Betty Hargrave. Absent George Lunger. PAULA BATCHELDER 'i J ' ff ANN DUKE I Sponsor MISS GENELLE CALDWELL The National Honor Society is given no special jobs. The members decide each year what their projects will be. It has been the custom during re- cent years for the members to tutor students who need help with their studies. This was continued this year. The members of the Honor Society are selected by the faculty on the basis of their character, schol- arship, leadership, and service. And to the rising underclassmen, who will someday be- come our leaders. . . Good Luck. To those who are graduating and will be entering into new and different fields, may your life be filled with joy, happiness and success. To the faculty, thank you for your faithfulness and de- votedness in guiding us into the things that are right.
