Dave, or Rosie as we call him, entered Blair four years ago. At that time he started to work hard and win friends, today he has a fortune of friends, and his hard work has paid off in dividends of admiration. No Blair can say that Dave does not always lly his he undertakes His pleasant have of such xy' ARTHUR GEORGE WHITE 207 Madison Avenue Clifton, N. J. The moment Art entered Blair, he decided to bring laugh- ter to any despondent face he encountered. Judging from the happy faces about Art, it is agreed by all that he has a wonderful way of getting people to laugh. Of course, there is a serious side to our class treasurer, but he does not display it to all. Art can always be depended upon to com- plete a job, no matter how unpleasant. His abilities and talents cover a great range of activities. He has a host of friends and admirers, certainly a sure sign of popularity. No matter what occupation he undertakes, it is quite cer- tain that Art will lead a merry life. The book was planned in such a way as to afford a greater amount of space to photographs. The staff decided that one way to better its forerunners would be to have senior write-ups. The write-ups, about twenty- five words in length, would give the personality of a senior plus a summary of his extra-curricular activities. The Acta is mainly a senior book, thus the staff attempted to have each senior in at least one informal photograph. THE ACTA Editor-in-Chief ..,......... Photographic Editor Business Manager ..... The society took an active interest in school affairs as it sponsored the famed Variety Show and con- ducted mock elections in the fall for the President of the United States. The Council consists of Mr. Haskins, the Athletic Di- rectorg Dr. Flinner, the Headmasterg the coaches of each varsity sportg and the team captains. This group meets at the close of each season to vote on the awarding of the Varsity HB . They also discuss the athletic policy of the school and the schedules of the forthcoming campaigns. The Varsity Bu is another association which helps encourage sports at Blair. This group consists of those boys who have won their varsity letter. At the football games in the Fall term, the association sells refreshments in order to raise funds to improve the school's athletic facilities. The board track, the school uniforms, and many other valuable things have been bought by the Var- ity BN. Both of these organizations have done a lot for Blair. They have made sports on the Hill something to be enjoyed by all. They have helped form teams on which the younger or smaller boys can play. All in all, they have done an excellent job in making athletics appeal to the player as well as the spectator. .xx J. The Buccaneer gridmcn completed the '52 cam- paign with three victories against three defeats. Their triumphs were over Admiral Farragut, St. Benediet's, and Peddie. The first game of the season was held at the 'gIIill against a scrappy Pennington squad. The inexperienced Bucs jumped off to a quick 14-0 half-time lead, but could not hold the oncoming Pennington team, which scored 19 points in the second half. Although the Blue and Wliite had many scoring opportunities, their attempts were futileg thus, the game ended with Pennington on on top by a 19-14 count. In the second contest of the campaign, the Kukmen faced a much heavier Lawrenceville aggregation. During the first half both teams played on fairly even terms. Lawrenceville jumped to a quick 6-0 lead which was promptly vanquished by a Blair T D by Pat Sempier, who cracked over renceville scored and for the rest of the game couldn't be stopped as they scored 33 points in the last half. The final score was 46-6. For their third game the Bucs traveled to Pine Beach, where they broke into the win column by copping a 19-6 decision over the swabbies of Ad- miral Farragut. The outstanding features of the game were: Bill Connolly's 99-yard T D runbaclc of a punt, his 30-yard pass to Cooper Saunders for another touchdown, and his toss to George Greene, who lateraled to Joey Basso, for the last score. The Bucs got off to a quick start in their next game, which was against The llill School. On the first play Bill Connolly chucked a 25-yard pass to Pel Brown, who raced 29 yards for the score. Selnpier then made the conversion, giving the Blue and White a 7-0 lead, which they held throughout the first half. However, the Bucs were definitely under a handicap because four plays after Con- nolly threw his T D pass, he received a head injury the Bed and Black goal from the 4- yard line. The Gray Bees were too much for the Blair harriers, as they swept to a 17-38 victory. The next contest resulted in another easy victory for the Bucs, who defeated Trinity, 17-38. Captain White takes his man down' Ginter goes for the pin. 1 ga. Wre tling Having a squad composed mostly of under- classmen, the Buc grapplers did not win any of their meets. However, some of the Blue and White wrestlers had very fine records and should im- prove in the years to come. YVhitey Enhobn was in charge of the 105- pound class. Whitey, who was hindered by an operation, did not start wrestling until late in the season. Sid Baumann and Dick Harden shared the 112- pound division. Sid, who is only a freshman, did an excellent job and should come into his own next year. Dick, who had been wrestling in the 120-pound group, dropped to 112 for the State Meet in which he captured a third place. Bob llunziker dropped to the 120-pound class. Bob had been doing well at 135, but decided he would do better in the State Meet at 120. By dropping down to that weight, he took a second. Tony Cera, the grappler in the 128-pound di- vision, was one of Coach Dalling's inainstays. Tony, a returning letterxnan, did exceptionally well and finished third in the State Meet. In the 135-14-T-pound classes Don Ginter, Gary Llorens, Bob Burn, and Yvillie Mellin alternated. Don, a returning lettcrman, faced very rough com- petition, but did a fine job. Gary, who was a newcomer to the varsity, came through in fine style. Bob, another underclassman, also met with some rough competition. Perhaps the most colorful wrestler on the squad was little Willie Mellin, who finished third in the State Meet. Willie is only a freshman and is expected to do big things in the future. Harry Bauman had the 157-pound class to him- self. Harry fared well in dual-competition and took a third at the States. Captain Art White wrestled in the 167-pound division. Art was very successful, winning two of his matches by pins and finishing second in the State Meet. The heavyweight was Bob Hauck, a newcomer to wrestling, Bobby looked very good and should be a big winner next year. Under the able coaching of Bob Dalling, the team should go far next year. In wrestling, ex- perience is the best teacher. Since most of the varsity was composed of underclassmen, the grap- plers gained the experience that is necessary to win in the future.
