Small cars, motorcycles, bicycles, and walking became popular modes of transportation. Many students, faculty members, and administrators, as well as, . WWWWMW Mt businessmen, policemen and shopping h i h housewives formed carpools. I , I Thermastats were turned down to a very cold 680 in homes, offices and schools. Students and teachers, at times, found it to be so cold that they wore coats or heavy sweaters in class. Our winter vacation was extented a few days. This was due partially because of snow but mostly to save on heat in the school. Gas rationing came to Maryland in early February. If the last number on your license tag was odd or even on a certain day you were lucky enough to get gas. If you could call that luck! Once in school we experienced the suspense of each announcement as it might call for early- dismissal. We sat in Class impatiently listening to rumors about what was supposedly going on.
