Classes in Crafts The Industrial Arts Department stressed excellent craftsmanship and the study of American industry in elective classes this year. The 90 students in Industrial Arts classes learned linoleum block, silk screen, book binding, relief printing, sheet metal, art metal, plastics and foundry. After learning the basic fundamentals in Industrial Arts, the students chose projects they were most interested in rather than having assigned projects. In june, a Senior who had dont' outstanding work throughout the year was honored hy the presentation of a gold pin. Left Pivot-Right Turn XY'hat b-b-h-bump? was the hair-raising shout made by Driver Education students in September. By june, however, 99 BHS students had learned the fundamentals of improved traffic behavior and how to develop safe, efficient, economical and enioyahle operation of the motor vehicle in Driver Education classes. Besides striving to present activity which will help stu- dents in school to gain the knowledge and skill in- valuable to later life, the Physical Education Department this year also made use of the paths from the tumbling mats to the trampoline, from the basketball courts to the football fields and from the volleyball nets to the tennis courts, worn deep hy the tennis shoes of former Physical Education students. Mosters of Bladensburgs Vocational Shop was built in l949. lt is patterned after an industrial plant and each of the ll rooms with accoustical ceilings was where 25 students learned trades for 45 minutes each school day from Sep- tember until june. The eight instructors in the Vocational Shop taught courses in cabinet making, machine shop. electronics, sheet metal, auto mechanics, printing, hot metals, drafting and electricity.
