MR. KALMAN JAMES VOZAR Principal 1 Executives Keep A word to the wise may be sufficient, but one word rarely tells enough about anyone or any- thing. Many times one word-a word such as principal-can bring to mind a myriad of facts and feelings, and this was especially true when the world principal was heard around BHS. Principal-and the wheels started to turn- Mr. Kalman J. Vozar, of course! Mr. Vozar, who has been principal of Bladen- ensburg Senior High School since 1954, first came here in 1948 and was a commercial teacher until 1949 when he became vice-principal. From 1951 through 1954, Mr. Vozar was principal of Gwynn Park jr.-Sr. High School. Mr. Vozar, who is responsible for everything concerning BHS from school-wide activities down to the actions of each individual student, received his B.S. degree in education from State Teachers' College, Indiana, Pennsylvania. He has done graduate work at the University of Mary- land and at Pennsylvania State University. He received his M.E. degree from the University of Pittsburgh. A member of Gamma Rho Tau and Phi Delta Kappa, honorary fraternities, Mr. Vozar is also active in the Lions Club and in the Bladensburg area Boy Scouts. He is a past president of the Principals' Association and the Prince George's County Teachers' Association. An enthusiastic sports fan and a former basket- ball and baseball coach, Mr. Vozar believes a word to be sufficient. Principal is sufficient. Carroll Beatty, President, Mrs. Ernestine Grigsby, Vice- BOARD OF EDUCATION The Prince George's County Board of Education has a membership of seven citizens, appointed by the Gover- nor of Maryland. These members serve from two to four year terms. The school board, which meets at least twice during the school year, has the responsibility of deciding the policies of the public schools in this county and ap- proving appointments made by the superintendent. PARENT-TEACHERS' ASSOCIATION The Parent-Teachers' Association, under the direction of Mr. Samuel Krakow, president, Mr. Charles Eckert, vice-presidentg Mr. Armand Biscontini, second vice-presi- dentg Mrs. Marion Ziehl, recording secretaryg Mrs. Dorothy Lupo, corresponding secretary and Mr. Frank Howser, treasurer, met each month during the school year. With a membership close to 700, the P.T.A. held such activities as a Career Night, panel discussions and a brainstorming session. HUGHES BISCONTINI GEISSENHAINER Vice-Principal Vice-Principal Vice-Principal Mr. Armand Biscontini is no newcomer to Bladens- burg. Although he has only been a vice-principal since 1958, he taught Science here from 1946 to 1949 and then held a position with the Prince George's County Board of Education from 1949 to 1958, Mr. Biscontini grad- uated from Old Forge High School in Pennsylvania and received his B.S. degree from the University of Scranton. He is currently doing graduate work at George Washing- ton University. A former Army man, Mr. Biscontini in- dulges in a game of golf often, although he is not a presidential hopeful. Mr. Samuel Geissenhainer has been vice-principal of the Vocational Technical Department since 1949. He received his B.S. degree at Pennsylvania State Teachers' 1 4' DEAR SIR the letter goes on as Mr Hu hes dictates to College and M.E. degree from the University of Mary- land. Besides teaching vocational drafting to Junior and Senior students, Mr. Geissenhainer also gardens and collects clocks. Mr. Harry Hughes has been vice-principal at Bladens- burg since 1956. He is a loyal Bladensburg fan even though he attended Hyattsville High School the first year it opened. Mr, Hughes received his B.A. and M.A. degrees from George Washington University and has taken grad- uate courses at the University of Maryland. Besides carry- ing out his duties as vice-principal, Mr. Hughes is a modern day Davy Crocket as he is a life member of the National Rifle Association.
