' -i r -- Ann Beryl Hawks Editor ★ Margaret Evelyn Wei Business Manager the Senior Class of 1943, wish to dedicate our Acorn to one who has en¬ deared herself in each of our hearts, who has made our greatest problems seem small, and in whom we have confided the things closest to us; to the one who always has a sunny smile and a cherry hello for everyone; to one who has always extended a helping hand and given us the inspiration to attain higher goals . . . so proudly we hail—Miss Lillian Wingo. FOREWORD D ear Reader: We have written a history in this book—not of a great nation, but a history of our life here in Blackstone College in the year of our Lord, nineteen hundred and forty-three. You may remember this year by the great war our nation is engaged in, but we hope you will remember Blackstone, too. This book has been written for the future; it is a history of our happy college days that we have lived and now are gone. We may only re¬ capture these days again in our memory. If this book can help you to remember, we shall be happy. v,: ' r : v • A Ise: ■ . . V- % HMdHHnn .r SaM J. Paul Glick President { 13 } George P. Two years of joy in being here Have swiftly, deftly flown. But still remain the memories sweet Of all the fun we’ve shared; Of joys and heartaches, smiles and tears: Of friends who really cared. Nailing pennants and hanging drapes, In those first few busy days; Of hockey, basketball and tennis; That peroxide craze. Of rat week, with its foolish fun; Of cramming all the facts To pass those English Lit. exams; Of all those midnight snacks. Of bells that ring throughout the day; Those long hours in the lab; Of the daily rush to the canteen— The last cake we slyly grab. Of nights in which we ' ve gaily danced, Played bridge, just sat and talked; Of our campus, sweet-scented in spring, Of paths and lanes we’ve walked. Those long-awaited week-ends home; Saturday matinees; Of long distance calls and Sunday dates; Of the early morning daze In which we staggered down to breakfast. The themes we’ve had to write; Of hot dogs and cokes by the fireplace; Singing in the twilight. Of laughter ringing through the halls; Of the fun we had Acting like morons in our class night skit; Our song—so sweet and sad. Of sorority house parties and lectures, Glee Club recitals; of May Day. Picking daisies in the early morn, The parting of the way; Of commencement—tears we cannot hide. We can never forget you, Alma Mater, Our hears belong to thee; We’ll love and cherish you forever, Our own dear B. C. G. —Written April 19 , 1943, by Eona Fair, ' 43. Cabinet had the privilege of making the new students feel at home in B. C. G. Recognizing that all work and no play proves to be dull, the Cabinet took advantage of the opportunities to sponsor activities of a light vein, such as birthday dinners and etiquette teas. Among its traditional parties are the Big Sister Party, Hallowe’en Party, and P-Nut Party. Broad in scope were the social service projects of this year which not only aided the less fortu¬ nate in these United States, but also gave a helping hand to refugees in war-torn Europe. The vital religious program of the Y. W. C. A. included weekly Chapel and Candlelight Services. The latter, with their quiet, meditative atmosphere, provided by soft organ music and tapering candles, were especially thought-uplifting and heart-stirring. During days of study, the Cabinet has had the interest of the students at heart and has en¬ deavored to render them the largest possible service through worth-while and beneficial campus activities.
