Once again, the students of Blackhawk came together, like the pieces of a puzzle come together as a whole. Although every student is a part of the entire plan, each individual person has his own unique personality. Though we are all here for the common purpose of learning, we have different interests and goals. The 1974-1975 school year brought many new friendships and experiences and each one will contribute to our life's design. But, as the puzzle pieces are assembled, only to be broken apart again, so are the students of Blackhawk. As each individual puzzle piece stands alone, so must each of us to find our own life's intention. 4 gags - 4 Q ' L ,,,,n www 4 . Our activities began early in the summer of '74 with the preparation of the football programs. Soon after the close of football season, we turned our attention to the Fifties Dance. The event was well attended and marked as a huge success. As the Yuletide season brought good cheer to Blackhawk, the Seniors actively participated in the Pittsburgh Childrens' Hospital Farkleberry Fund Raising Drive. The annual Christmas Dance was made a reality by a group of hard-working Senior Class members. Throughout the first months of 1975, our efforts were directed towards the preparations for graduation and the Commencement exercises. As the year drew to a close, as did our high school experiences, a Senior Class Party was organized. Because of the constant support and cooperation by class mem- bers and our sponsor, Mr. Bricker, the officers were not hesitant to attempt any task or opportunity that presented itself to them. The 1974-75 Junior Class, sponsored by Miss Emma Clapie, had an extremely busy year. Even before school began, the summer found us organizing a car wash and a bake sale. With school under way, the October project was the annual junior class magazine sale, which proved to be a substantial success. November came, and along with it the junior class Homecoming Mum sale, the lighting of the B on the hill for two home football games, and the powder puff football game. The March spaghetti dinner and varsity-faculty basketball game marked the end of ourfund-raising projects forthe year. All in all, our attempt to finance the Junior-Senior Prom on May 2 was a great success for us, the class of 1976. Miss Emma Clapie, Sponsor. if-Ei' My ws 45 Sophomore Class Officers: Nancy Kross, Secretary, Barry Ebersberger, President, Dan Lansberry, Business Manager, Carolyn Uebelacker, Vice-President: Dawn Cole, Treasurer. S OPHOMORE CLASS The cooperation and ambition of the sophomore class with the aid of our sponsor, Mrs. Beckwith, helped make this year's activities worthwhile. We supplemented our treasury by sup- plying refreshments at the home basketball games and vari- ous school functions. A tradition was started when we united with the freshman class to sponsor the Valentine Dance. Our class party was held in April, and we are hoping it will be an annual event. The Class of '77 is now looking forward to a successful junior year. ALI.- Sponsors: Mrs. Isabelle Gilchrist, Freshman Class, Mrs. Jane Beckwith Sophomore Class, We, the Freshman Class, have many goals to strive for in the next three years at Blackhawk. We have already begun our climb to achieving these goals through sponsoring dances, a car wash, and our unique spring flower bulb sale. Thanks to our sponsor, Mrs. Isabelle Gilchrist, we have successfully begun the unification of the Class of '78. FRESHMAN CLASS HOMEROOM 207 L. to R. The starters were tremen- dous, and the bench strength carried us through many games. Every girl had some- thing to offer and we complimented each other very well. Even the J.V.'s contributed by giving the Varsity positions to work for. This team has a lot to be proud of. They helped to make Blackhawk a little more special. I am especially proud to be the coach of such an outstanding, cooperative, and enthusiastic team. My first year of coaching will always be a highlight in my Iife. The Council sponsored activities for the students that included the Freefare musical assembly, the movie Jesus Christ Superstar, the various sports assemblies, the talent show, the musical concert of FragiIe and the Coffee House. The Council spoke out on various issues including homecoming and the honor roll system. The Council opened a student store that offered students a chance to purchase various articles from notebooks to T-shirts and made it possible for students to get reduced prices on theatre tickets. Through the efforts of the Visitation and Evaluation Committee the Council gained many useful ideas to improve the school and Student Council. ln addition, the Council adopted a new Constitution and offered students direct lines of communication with the school board and administra- tors. BRE W . . . worked hard this year to prove the necessity of the new club. The main accomplishments included a seven ton collection of newspaper, old tests, scratch paper, and magazines, a tin and aluminum drive, and the planting of a large number of seedlings along the expressway in Chippewa. A large amount of the paper collected in the drive, was due to the cooperation of the students and faculty by putting waste papers in the distributed BREW boxes. Interested members of the community also gave their papers to be recycled. BREW became a member of the Beaver County Conservation District along with a number of other area schools. Through this organization, BREW carried out its environmental work, in the plant- ing of the seedlings. The need for such a club is great and hopefully an interest will remain next year. It also provided pre-game and post-game shows when at home. A highlight of the football season was combining with the Beaver Falls band to perform for that game. This show was given a ten minute standing ovation by the thousands of fans in attendance. The Marching Band also participated in the Geneva College Homecoming, the Beaver County Veterans Day Parade, and a Halloween Parade. Other instrumental groups include the Orchestra and the Pep Band. Numerous of other small wind ensembles are available to interested students. Another highlight of this school year was Blackhawk being selected to be Host School for the Regional State Orchestra held for three days in March. Members of the Orchestra came from the entire Western half of Pennsylvania. PEP BAND How 7. Donna Krepps, Bob Drogus, George Britton, Bud Anderson, Kevin Martin, John Brelloch, Kathy Anderson. Cougar Talk Staff During lunch time almost every Wednesday and Fri- day, 11 by 14 inch green and gold sheets are dis- tributed to all cafeterias. These sheets serve a variety of purposes: some students check the score of last night's game, some check to see if there is a dance scheduled soon while still others check Counselors' Corner forthe latest test in- formation. Still others use them for placemats or to analyze various flight pat- terns. These sheets are Cougar TaIk, the news sheet de- signed to keep BHS in- formed and complement The Cougar's Tale, the news magazine. Cougar Talk is the work of students en- rolled in Media Reporting, an English elective for jun- iors and seniors. Individual ideas could clash to such an extent that entire sections would have to be redone over and over again. No matter how secret we tried to keep the surprize cartoon cou- gar, the word always got out. We, the staff, did enjoy putting this book together. Each of the sections has a part of our own selves in it along with each of you as a part of the school. Our main goal was to try to include as many students as possible especially through- out the senior section. We tried to be unique in style from each of the years before, and show Blackhawk as it really was this past year. As for ourselves, we would like to recall one fond memory and ask, Hey Dad, where's Mom? We hope you have enjoyed the memo- ries of 1974-75. The Ohiyesa Staff 44 OH! YE SA STAFF Co-Editors .... To the graduating seniors of the Class of 1975, I offer sincere congratulations for your successes in all phases of school life. Your leadership has been an inspiration to the underclassmen. Congratulations to you all as you each embark on a new phase of your lives. I hope that Blackhawk has contributed positively to your knowledge and growth as persons in full measure for the contributions you have made to us. May peace, love, and joy be with you always. Maw if 9 ASSISTANT PRINCIPALS You, the class of 1975 and l, have known each other for only a short time. It has been a pleasure working with you. The cooperation that was extended to me was greatly ap- preciated. As the class of 1975 leaves the security of the halls of Blackhawk High School and goes out into the insecure outside world, I would like to leave them with this thought. When you get what you want in your struggle of life and the world makes you king for a day. Just go to the mirror and look at yourself and see what the man has to say. For it isn't your father, or mother, or wife whose judgment upon you must pass. The one whose opinion means most in your life is the one looking back in the glass. He's the one to please, never mind all the rest, for he's with you clear up to the end. And you've passed the most dangerous, difficult task if the man in the glass is your friend. You may be a Jack Horner and chisle a plum and think you're a wonderful guy. But the man in the glass says you're only a bum if you can't look him straight in the eye. You may fool the whole world down the pathway of cheers and get pats on the back as you pass. But your final reward will be heartaches and tears if you've cheated the man in the glass. To the class of 1975: The year 1975 will take its place as a very spe- cial year in your life. lt is a year you will remember far into the future. 1 In your mind I hope the expression Blackhawk Class of '75 is synonymous with words like op- portunity, good friends, cherished memories, and fun times. May the remainder of your life be an extension of these thoughts. John Hannum as NURSES' '4f1x.,. Some shall return, but those of us who have completed our stay here, are about to begin a new life as individuals. Just as the puzzle was once assembled, the pieces are forced to break apart and stand alone and strong. We, these individual puzzle pieces, are about to embark on a journey to find exactly where we fit once again in a new and more intricate puzzle. lf for some reason we are called together again, to reunite the pieces of the old, there will be those who have found their permanent place in life and can not return. These few will be the ones we may never see again and will be the missing pieces. M,Q,,t if .aw A ft H' Jacy NlcClinton Dino VLH' .
