Mr. Robert Selby, Sponsor 181 seniors This year has been both the first and last year for the seniors at Blackhawk High School. A senior committee worked very hard throughout the entire summer preparing football programs which were sold at each home football game. Another project held was a Halloween Party in which all proceeds were donated to the United Way. The traditional Christmas Dance was sponsored by the seniors. Win- ter Velvet Was chosen as the theme for the dance by a committee of hard-working seniors with the chairman, Beverly Lam- bright. The dance was presided over by Queen Tina DiCarlo and her four at- tendants. Throughout the entire year, the oflicers and Mr. Selby, the sponsor, concerned themselves with the numerous arrangements for graduation and the senior class party. 1' Rene? L- ACkeI'IHaY1 James A. The junior class, under the leadership of the officers and sponsor, Mr. Nagel, tackled many tasks during 1973-74. The first activity of the junior class consisted of responding to the class challenge to construct and light the letter B which would be visible from the Northwestern football field, The next task was the raising of funds. The juniors held a magazine sale in October and a homecoming mum sale in November. During Blackhawks first powder puff game, the junior girls lost in a close contest. Next, the class of ,75 sold mugs to their fellow juniors. During Christmas time, the juniors trimmed a huge Christmas tree on the second floor landing of Blackhawk, utilizing the theme: Back to Na- ture . The next few months were spent in search of ways to earn money for the juniors' main respon- sibility, the prom. These efforts blossomed into a spaghetti dinner - bake sale - Steeler-Faculty basketball night of entertainment on March 15. On this night, the juniors again lost to the seniors during the Yale-Princeton game and the boys, junior-senior game. The fund-raising year officially ended with B1ackhawk's Hrst prom. 58! classes Mr. James Nagel, Sponsor IO G lf HOMEROOM 207 3 022 029 '67 b I C? no or W Q ll Bill Liston Kevin Moore Greg Toth Tim Biser John Muiis Ray Douds Dave Fleishmann Glenn Kraynie Sam Rocco Chuck Fry Liz liestyan Crystal Horn Terri Coleman Becky Gillingham Joel Gisondi Mike Choido Becky Grimes Sharon Jackson Joanne Pavlinch Becky Castrucci Darrell Zeh Mike Vidonish Florence Show Sherry Hoskin Lynn Merryman Julie Small Karl Pappen Kim Patton Robin Brightwell . In a year of firsts at Black- hawk, the media students were on the scene with several new ideas and firsts. Our first year saw the birth of two publica- tions: Cougar Talkl' and THE COUGAR'S TALE. In an effort to keep BHS students well-informed, the media reporting class presented the morning PA broadcasts and created Cougar Talk,', the green and gold news sheet which appeared almost every Wednesday and Friday at lunch. In their first year, the Talk staff produced 54 news-filled sheets. To compliment the news sheet journalism students pro- duced seven issues of THE COUGAR'S TALE. This pub- lication departed from the tra- ditional newspaper format to create another first: a news magazine. Some of the Staffs new ideas were the cover pic- ture and Thoughts and Things, a creative writing section. The year of firsts ended on a satisfying note for the staff and adviser, Mrs. Turek when THE COUGAR'S TALE earned First Honors in Duquense Universityls Scholastic Press Association evaluation. activities! 123 MUCH DO ABOUT GTHI H . fJ 1. This school and this graduating class represents the bringing together of many ideas and many achievements. I am extremely pleased to have had a part in this accomplishment and I am sure that you Will look back upon it with great pride in the coming years. My sincere congratulations go to each of you and my best wishes for con- tinued success and good luck in your coming years also go to you. I72! administration Bert Robinson The Blackhawk Cougar has grown from a small kitten to a mature Cougar during the 1973-1974 school year. The maturing process was not without blemish and it did produce good times and bad. We all learned a great deal in this first year of the new school, and made continual progress as the year moved along. One ofthe reasons for the rapid growth ofthe school has been the hard work and dedication of so many members of the first Blackhawk High School Senior Class. I congratulate all Seniors and hope that you will always look back on this school year with fond memories and continue to remember Blackhawk as Someplace Special?
