EXCHANGE STUDE FIELD SERVICE Before I left my country, I told myself, Forget every- thing you have heard about the United States of America and find out what it is like for yourself. When I got here, I met the most wonderful, nice, and friendly people I have ever known. I will never forget the marvelous experiences I shared with my American family and with my friends at school. My staying in the United States is going to be an important chapter in my future life. I will aways re- 1-L. member the hard time I had getting used to American we customs, especially food, and I am very happy I tried, S even happier, because I was successful. All these things helped me to increase my knowledge about people. I was surprised when I learned that Amer- icans are not rich people and that all they have, they have achieved because of work and effort. - I am becoming more outgoing that I ever was before. In Chile I never spoke before my school, even before a little group, but here, because of all the speeches I have I . I V- given and the clubs and other activities I have participated if ' W ri'i f' I X in I am going back far more confident than I was. -is , I S ' 22:-' -. What a sad feeling it is to think of going back to Chile when school is over, leaving this new and strange life, because after a whole year, I have fallen in love with the American people and with their country. Finally I would like to say thank you to my teachers: Mrs. johnson, Miss Dravecky, Mr. Glandon, Mrs. Mitch- ell, Mr. Pesut and the other people who helped me in any way that they could so my year at Blackford was successful. A very special thanks goes to Mr. Romer, Mr. I-Iorrigan and Mrs. Couch who made my stay so pleasant and comfortable. YQ TH FUR UNDERSTANDING BO MARTHINSON FROM SWEDEN s.ti..i 7 Q Being the first exchange student under the Youth For Understanding program here at Blackford, I was a little uncertain how I would be ac- cepted. Now that I have been here almost a year, I see my fears were unnecessary, and it has been a wonderful life experience I'1l never forget. It is impossible to say how much I like you and your school. I want to thank Mr. Romer, the teachers and staff and all you students for your kindness and friendliness. I hope some of you will come to Sweden and look me up some day
