Best season for tankers The Blackford swim team had the best season ever, with a team record of 7-2 in dual meets. The weather had an effect on the condition of the swimmers as well as the season, as it cancelled seven regular meets. Co-captains were Bob Tarter and Jeff Custer. Custer led the way with the highest number of points and also was the most consistent throughout the year. These two strong points earned him the Most Valuable Swimmer award. Two records were broken this year. Brent Tarter broke Mark Lewellen ' s old record with a time of 5.33.63 and Jeff Custer broke his former record with a new time of 1.00.8. In the Sectional all swimmers cut seconds off their best times, but only the diving team placed. Brad Pulley, Brad McConnell, and Kevin Ford place 4, 5, and 6 respectively. Coach Brian Hay said the season had been a difficult one because of the weather, but the swimmers kept up their spirit and drive throughout the season. 102 Swimming
