STAFF EDITOR ... Terri Lewis PHOTO EDITOR ... Todd Viebell ARTISTS.. Mitch Mansanarez Jay Metz ADVISOR .. Mr. McIntosh ‘3'uwcAa, “Pcut The Broncho's have come a long way in just 75 short years. In the early 1900's the Blackfoot Broncho's high school was a small building. It was made of mud and wood. The original Broncho student body was made-up of freshman, sophomores, juniors, and seniors. Many of those bronchos were really cowboys and went to school while also helping out on the family farm or ranch. In 1981-82 we have more members in the senior class than were in the entire student body in those early years. Due to over population the Blackfoot High School now has only sophomores to seniors attending the high school, with the freshmen being moved to the Blackfoot Junior High. The spelling of Bronco's has been changed over the years to Bronchos. However, this is the year of the Juliblee Anniversary of Blackfoot High School, so the Class of 82 would like to dedicate the 1982 annual to the Broncho's past and present. Over the years there have been many improvements in the school academic programs. The latest of these im- provements is tne Honors Programs. There are three of these programs — Honors English, Honors History, and Honors Biology. These subjects are for students who excel in that particular subject; the greatest thing is that college credit can be earned by taking these special classes. The dress code at Blackfoot High School has also been changed over the years. The students may now wear what they like and choose as long as it is reasonable and appropriate. In the past a strict dress code was enforced. Young ladies would have to wear dresses and all the young men would be re- quired to wear dress pants ana very nice shirts. The students feel that this is a more desirable change; they feel more comfortable in the clothes acceptable by their peers. We, the Blackfoot Broncho's, are very lucky because we have something very special and unique in the in- door swimming pool. The pool gives students who have never learned to swim a chance to acquire this skill. Other classes available for the swimming students are: snorkling, kayaking, canoing, and life saving courses. In 1981-82 the Blackfoot Bronchos student body con- sists of approximately 850 members. The staff con- sists of tne high number of 55. The staff includes teachers, secretaries, custodians, aides, librarian, cooks, counselors, and administration. Bronchos have always set the standards for improve- ment and will always continue to excel and lead the way in inovative education. Bronchos will keep right on improving always but in the year 1981-82 we the Blackfoot Bronchos are Better Than Ever!! tad Pie e tt 11 7W (Zwttenta. Oftenln?.............. In that year the class of 82' was in the seventh grade When we walked in the front doors of the school, it was the first time our class became acquainted with each other. It was in that year that the new hair-do's and hash jeans began their big popularity, everyone had the same jeans and bought their clothes from the same store Our class started off like any other seventh grade class. We obeyed with wide eyes and always did as we were told Eighth grade was just another year, growing-up and starting drivers ed That was exciting getting behind the wheel of a car for the first time Boy, that sure seems like it was in the yester years of our childhood Then our ninth grade year was here before we knew it. The ninth grade in junior high level were always allowed to have two night dances Our first night dance came in October The radio station played the music and it started out to be a pretty good dance Due to, too much alcoholic beverages drank by our freshman class that night, our second night dance and night dances for the next two years were cancelled Later that year our class wanted to put a game room in the basement of the school. At that time we saw no reason why we shouldn't have such an activity room. It would occupy our lunch hour and keep us at school. The school officials saw the room as a waste and nothing like that was needed at the school Well we protested against the decision the officials made by having a sit-out in the back field of the school grounds. Our class stayed out on the field for two hours, with over half our class participating We were threatened that we would be expelled if we didn't return to class. Therefore, we marched back into the halls of the school Our actions proved to be useless, as the school still refused to get a game room. At least we tried In our years at the new junior high we were also victims of bomb threats. The threats seemed to happen often, but in our second year the culprit was caught The school year of 79-80 was the year of chaos, our first year in high school, it was an experience in itself At pep assemblies our class was belittled and looked down on, even though we sat in the upper section, constantly. Over all our class was going through an identity crises. Coming into high school and having alot more expected from you is difficult to deal with at first. As the weeks passed and our class became familiar with the grounds, the chaos settled down. The first day in school, initiation was a total success for the upperclassmen. They could have found more ap- propriate items to use on us for welcoming us into such a lovely environment but, they still stuck with the basics. Vaseline, baby oil, lipstick, baby powder, cornflakes, shoe polish, they tied people together and the best part had to have been when sophomores got to wear white fruit-of-a-looms with 81 and 80 written on them in green on the out- side of their pants The class of 82's sophomore year was much like any classes sophomore year But, when we were Seniors, sophomores were treated like humans, not equals, just humans. Oh, another little thing that our sophomore class en- joyed was having to enter the gym through the back entrance for assemblies. That meant going outside to get together for the excitement in the gym When it was snowing or raining was the best time to have an assembly. After the assembly, everyone knew who was a sophomore. Our junior year, that was another year. We knew kinda what was expected of us. During Homecoming week we actually knew how to decorate the halls and of course, we won Our class started pulling together this year More and more students were participating in the activities around the school The junior girls won powder puff and our junior prom was a total success. The theme to the annual festivity was Carolina Moon'' and all decorations correlated with the colonial times. This school year 80-81 was also the year that our superintendant Elliot Moser took office. Our year 1981-82 arrived, we thought it would never arrive We all felt so big lockering in the senior hall actually the underclassmen were lucky to have the class of 82' for seniors As the 80' seniors were full of insults for us when we were sophomores. Really to see our class pull together like they did was really something else to see. Activities that went on that proves the togetherness of our class; for example: homecoming week, more than thirty seniors showed to decorate our hall, we won The annual food drive was made a total success due to the senior class, the food went to needy families throughout the community The obnoxiousness of the students somehow seemed to fade away and our class became totally awesome In the pep assemblies through the year the spirit stick always ended up in the hands of the seniors Our senior activities were something else Every year each senior class has a week full of activities The senior trip was a day long trip to LaGoon The senior ball a super activity, the class of 82' was the first to have it at the Hilton Inn at Pocatello The senior breakfast was something else but, graduation had to have been the best How long had we been waiting ° Being in high school wasn't bad at all in Blackfoot. Somehow our class seemed to make the best of it and in a way we re realty sad to be going But, for everybody who knew us, and observed us from the beginning to the end, thanks for all the help Our class is the best thanks to all of you in the Blackfoot school district As we enter our journey in the world never will anyone at Blackffoot High School be forgotten in the memories that the graduating class of 1982 will have for life a vnou tceS 9§ nvmesnc4 7ie $2 z lctdeS fe TieA a , ($4 zy, £a e i y'-J sz ( 4 ne ee 7v a nc ei y-£u o- a£ ecp i,, m.
