A feature of Agriculture is having guest speakers Ward Little is showing slides on cattle Steve Yancey is shown building his model home Students Learn Vocational Skills Mr Parker is the teacher for the classes of shop Various class construction and repair projects provided opportunities for actual experience Architectural students developed complete house plans and then built models with designs of their own choosing There were approximately 125 students taking shop this year This year Mr Parker taught a night class of shop for anyone who wished to come Agriculture teachers are Mr. Mortensen and Mr Bott. Mr Bott also teaches the welding classes. All the boys who take the class have a good outlook on being a farmer Field trips are taken often during the year This year's Agriculture includes the growing of plants and the raising of animals for food, clothing and other needs of man. The mam branches of Agriculture include, crop farming, dairying ranching, poultry raising, and fruit growing Mr Mortensen instructs Kevin Webster on some techniques of welding

Bookkeeping class considers the problem of keeping accurate records Business Provides For Future Jobs Mr Moss, prosecuting attorney, speaks on the difference between crimes and torts Business is one of the few courses in BHS that prepares students for jobs right out of high school The Office Practice class, which lasts two class hours, gives the girls the experience of working in a mock office. They take many field trips to banks and offices and learned to run their equipment Speakers as well as tests hold a major position during the year Speakers included business men and women as well as cosmetologists Tests held were the Civil Service, the City Employment. and the AEC Commission Stenographical Tests Several contests were held throughout the year and the classes’ scrapbook took third in the state contest. Also during state Joyce Hendricks was nominated for President throughout the state Two scholarships were awarded in the business classes Clerical secretary was given to Gloria Rose and Teresa Spanbauer was given stenographical secretary Mrs Murphy's Business Law class participated m video tapes Stephanie Zilk took the roll of teacher when doing video tapes in Business Law

Oral Work Places High Throughout the English sections at BHS there is a special emphasis placed upon oral work There are too few who take speech in the first place. said Mrs. Owens. These oral projects range from book reports to oral reports on subjects relating to the novels studied Mrs Thompson tried out a new way to teach vocabulary words Each group was assigned words and presented them in a different way everyday Many original ideas were used effectively, these ranging from skits to games, and crosswords to demonstrations Mrs Martsch’s classes used several films, including one on Ray Bradbury, two on communism and a film on Africa In Mrs. Martsch’s college prep course Mrs. Barbara Hoge spoke and showed slides on her trip to Russia Mrs Martsch said that she felt that English connected with the other subjects because the time periods of the novels coincide with periods in history Research papers also play an important part in Jr English It is required for students to write one research paper a year Many panels are used in this department especially concerning the different novels used throughout the year Some are conducted in a debate fashion. This just goes to show that we had ONE whole week without activities this year Mrs Gardner and her class don’t look too lively at 8 00 A M
