Math Department Loses Mr. Owens This year Math had some improvements and changes The Math teachers. Mr. Mortensen. Mr. Perkes. and Mr Rock got a chance to meet different students in the school when Mr Owens left for the District Office at semester Mr. Jerry Hong came to teach and to help carry the load He took over one each of Mr Rocks and Mr Mortensens Modern Math II classes, as well as Mr Perkes 7th hour Geometry class Mr Mortensen received the honor of becoming head of the Math Department. He said wistfully. 'I sure wish Mr Owens was back '1 A new teaching method used by some of the teachers in their Math Classes is student contracting This is when each student talks to the teacher and decides what they are going to learn in a certain amount of time Scott Whwl«r watches while Debbie Denny. PE Develops Personalities Physical Education helps you to develop yourself both physically and mentally. said Lynn Zehnter The girls also get a feeling of accomplishment and it gives them a release for their inner anxiety P E is taught by Lynn Zehnter and Gary Skoy They both teach 4 hours of PE and coach Skoy teaches 1 gymnastics class while Miss Zehnter teaches 1 advanced P E The girls' classes covered volleyball, bowling, soccer, basketball, badminton and gymnastics The boys' course contained basketball, running, bowling, badminton, gymnastics, weight lifting, and softball. All these classes as well as Broncadettes and athletics count as 1 P E credit Last year s track coach Mr Patterson keeps up with the Bronco news Kurt Branghan attempts to show his skill on the parallel bars while classmates look on 9

Variety Gives Key to Interest Variety is the key to making History interesting and this is what the teachers try to do Teachers of History and related courses are. Mr Sheppard. Mr Homer. Mr Palmer. Mr. Bolmgbroke. and Mrs. Thompson Several films are used throughout the year They are used to more clearly show outstanding events in the U S History teachers also use the films as the bases for class discussion New approaches being used are simulated games in the area of big business. labor. railroads and homesteading Panels, discussion, and debates are used Guest speakers are used in the following areas World War I. World War II. Civil War. Depression, and Viet Nam This seems to add a great deal of interest to the class Students also do interviewing themselves of the apprehension of World War II Does history get you down Bill? Mr Clifford Osguthorpe displayed war relics and spoke of World War I to the History classes Mr Homer's class struggles with the problem of writing a workable constitution
