Membership in the National Forensic League is an honor and an achievement as it is conferred upon students who have earned a designated number of points by participating in speech activities. interscholastic Contests are held each year by this organization and members may participate in such phases of speaking as: debate, original oratory, extempore speaking, a student congress, and others. The winners from regional tournaments are eligible to participate in the National N.F.L. Speech Tournament or the National Student Con- gress. A large traveling trophy was awarded to the chapter in 1950 for receiving the greatest number of trophy points at the regional meet. In the 1951 and 1952 regional tournaments the chapter took second place. DEBATE B.H.S. debaters have been the winner of the district debate tourna- ment fourteen times. The 1951-1952 debaters won first place in the women's division, district tournament, second place in the men's divi- sion, and placed third in state competition. Through the channels of debate a student has the chance of be- coming a more effective speaker-a valuable asset in any field he de- sires to pursue.
