'-,?i5r This year's Associated Student Body didn't fool around. Some of their activities were: The Mixer, Homecoming Dance, work in junior Red Cross, and Exchange Assembly. It was also the duty of the A. S. B. to O. K. all class and club assem- blies, they even sponsored a Talent Assem- bly which proved most popular and met with such good response that three assem- blies were required in order to give all the students with special talents an opportunity to perform. Another activity initiated by the group-and which promises to be of value and interest in future years--is the collection of historical items, materials and data relative to the past years of Blackfoot High. The students chosen to serve on the Student Council feel that it was not only a high honor but a valuable experience. ORGANIZATICNS 'n nn L. 5 I Unsurpassed experiences are offered whnch add color to later lrfe This was a most successful year for our senior class I. S. Club. These 13 girls, under the wonderful leadership of Mrs. Barnes, their sponsor, enjoyed a year filled with many activities. The I. S. Club, with the help of the Hi-Y, put on the freshman initiation assembly, and the next month sponsored the Autumn Formal, which was declared a huge success by many. The girls sold candy, pop and apples at one of the football games and later at the unforgettable Blackfoot vs. Shelleybasketball game. ln the spring, the club undertook its final project, the I. To begin with, a chart of the building was made to acquaint new students with the location of their various class rooms. The Club's activities were many during '49 and '50, These included an entertaining assembly, a dance, the annual Turkey Hop, at which a turkey was given away, and the decorating of the Christmas tree, located 123:E,.., in the lower hall. 3151 We feel that this club more than did their share in helping to make ' ---- 1- this school a happier place to attend. Requirement for membership is based upon a point system. Ten points are given for the first win at a speech tournament, nine for the second win, eight for the third, and so on down the line. Two points are given for losses. Twenty points will entitle a student to become a member. Fifty points earns the degree of meritg 100 points, Boyd Bitton Laffy Eligon the degree of honor, 200, the degree of distinction. Larry Elison will have achieved the degree of distinction by the end of this school term, and several other members will get the award next year. The Rostrum, official organ of publication for the NFL, has given recognition to BHS on several occasions. This magazine works hand in hand with the league and it announces the national debate question. In recent years our school has had a student at the national NFL meet, won championships at Ogden, and ranked high in district meets. These and other such honors are standing challenges to present members. Under the capable direction of Mamie Capellen, there is no doubt that they will keep up the excellent record. Marion Green Marion Hoover August Miller Sally Oldham Charles Oldham Richard Packham julia Sconiers An emblem goes with mem bership. In the shape of a key, the pin contains an emerald to W signify that the wearer has attained the degree of merit, a sapphire for honor , or a ruby for distinction. Left to Rightw-Richard Packham, Miss Capellen, julia Ann Sconiers, Sally Oldham, Boyd Bitton, Marion Hoover, Marion Green, Marian DeKay, Charles Oldham. DEBATE The BHS Debaters this year, coached by Miss Capellen QCappiej, made them- selves felt in the speech activities of the State as well as the School. Debates were held in many different classes during the school year, thus stimulating an interest among the students in the debating activities of the team. Debating tours were made to several schools. Our teams showed up well in the Weber College Tournament in Ogden during March and in the State and District Tournament in April. At Blackfoot were held two events, the annual Practice Tourney and the Regional NFL Contest, at which four states were represented. BHS can be proud of the word warriors of 1950 as tops in a field which is not duly appreciated. V ?
