We are grateful for all he does for Blackduck Schools. Richard graduated from Blackduck in 1971. He and his wife Debbie were classmates. They have three children, Karen, Craig, and Cheryl. In his spare time Richard enjoys planting trees, gar- dening, hunting, and reading outdoor stories. Blackduck High School thanks Richard for all he does for us. Upper Right: R. Tjepkes Left: W. Morris, B. Folsom, R. Huewe Lower Right: R. Tjepkes, J. Patch, N. Swedberg, T. Engberg We also wish to thank all of these hardworking individuals who open our lockers, turn up the thermostat, and clean up after us. We are especially grateful for their friendliness cheerfulness, optimism, and understanding. 2 BLANCA BARRENA is our foreign exchange stu- dent from Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. Monter- rey has a total of three million people. Blanca’s family consists of six people, her parents Blanca and Rodolfo Berrena, her sisters Alejandrs, Gabriela, and Fabiola. Her favorite foods in Mexico are Tamales, Flautas, and Pasole. The best things she likes about Blackduck are the people. She said, “People here seem to care a lot about each other.” When she was asked about school she said that Mexican schools give the kids more re- sponsibility. She also commented that when you are late for a class in Mexico you didn’t have to go to the office and get a pass, you also could skip classes without getting in trouble. FOREIGN EXCHANGE STUDENTS PETER SODERLAND is a foreign exchange student from Tampere, Finnland. The population of Tampere is 167,951 people. Peter has one brother and one sister, their names are Mikael and Marina. His parents names are Gustav and Karin. What Peter thinks is the major difference between the U.S. and Finnland, is the school system. He plans to go to medical school in Finnland. He went with the foreign exchange program to “learn English fluently.” His favorite food is pizza. His favorite sports are down- hill skiing, ice hockey, tennis, and soccer. He likes the U.S. because it’s so big. You can travel different places that are cold one day and be someplace warm in a matter of a couple of hours. The only other place he has traveled is Sweden. Peter also likes the Twins. 3 SUPERINTENDENT, SECRETARIES AND SCHOOL BOARD Superintendent: G. Kjellberg Left to Right: P. Gillstad, O. Sessing, R. Holmgren, G. Kjellberg, M. Nord, L. Falk, J.
