BEA TEACHER of the YEAR This year Mrs. Donna Collison, one of the kindergarten teachers, was selected as the Blackduck Education Association (BEA) Teacher of the Year. Mrs. Collison has been teaching kindergarten at Blackduck since 1969 and says it has been a rewarding challenge. Mrs. Collison believes that although teaching is a difficult career, it is all worthwhile if there is just one little smile, one little hug, or one kind word. She thinks that all children should be able to say — “Hey, I'm OK! The BEA Teacher of the Year award is given to a teacher who has at least a baccalaureate degree or a license to teach from the state of Minnesota. The teacher who is chosen is the representative of the many educators who influence our lives daily. The main purpose of the award is to express the appreciation for all of the outstanding men and women in the education field. The teacher s name is then nominated for State and National Teacher of the Year. CONGRATULATIONS MRS. COLLISON!! 8

Principal Glen Lakes said that some were negotiable but others were not. Prin- cipal Lakes said he would like to see the students’ energy directed toward more worthwhile things and used our food drive as an example. He said that he would have been more impressed if the protest had been for something more worth- while, like for Nuclear Disarmament the rights in South Africa.
