Mr. Hanson attended Nevis High School and then went on to Macphail College of Music. He came to Blackduck in 1950, taught choir and band for 25 years and is presently the band director. Mr. Hanson has presented to the school and community many enjoyable concerts during his years here. We are very proud of his accomplishments with various music groups at the many contests they have attended, and wish to thank him for his guidance toward our better appreciation of music. Mr. Hanson is married and his wife, Lois, teaches elementary music. They have four children, Christine, Luann, Gregg, and Brian; and three grandchildren. s E N I 0 R S J onlJte.n G. Batten Siuan C. Her name was Elina Vainio. Elina has an older brother, Ilkka. Her father teaches English in a secondary school and her mother is a mid-wife in Rauma hospital. Her family’s hobby is traveling, which helped her decide to come to the U.S. Elina participated in such school activities as volleyball and FHA. Her hobbies include horseback riding, knitting, baking, and playing piano. She has studied English, Swedish, and German. During her stay she resided with the Lowell Trimble Family. Elina has become a close friend of many of us here at BHS. We would like to wish Elina the Best of Luck in her future. The season was highlighted by the 14-6 victory over Warroad which gave Mr. Sonnek his 100th victory. The team was a sophomore dominated club with even a few freshman seeing extensive action so the future looks bright for the Duck. First of all they worked together as a team, no one girl made them a good team. Not only were all of the starters good, but we also had good depth on the bench. Through their desire to win, their terrific free- throwing, and intelligent plays the girls ended their regular season with a record to be proud of. They finished third in conference and were rated third in district. With an overall record of 13-4. A record any team should consider quite an accomplishment.
