Foreword This has been the first year that the Black Quill has included all of the school activities up to Commencement. We hope that this will give a better insight to what goes on in Blackduck High School. We, the staff of the Black Quill, hope that we have been able to preserve memories of this year for all of the students, but for the seniors, especially. DEDICATION After graduating from Hamline University in St. Paul, Mrs. Mable Gilstad served as principal in a secondary school in North Dakota. She came to this school in 1927 as principal, a position she held until 1930. She also taught English and served as a part time librarian. Mrs. Gilstad left the teaching profession for a period after her marriage. She has two daughters, Audrey and Norma, and a son, Clarence. She also has nine grandchildren. Mrs. Gilstad returned to the Blackduck high school system in 1945 and taught English. Later, she taught Spanish, social studies, and speech, and again served as part time librarian. She became a full time librarian and served in that position until her retirement in 1967. Mrs. Gilstad retired with 46 years of her life dedicated to education, 17 as a student and 29 as a teacher. Mrs. Gilstad advised every Black Quill staff since 1951. Without her patience and knowledge many of the yearbooks would not have been as fine as they were. The Black Quill staff of 1967 i s personally indebted to her. We know that all will miss her and that we will never forget her.
