Many of the seniors take part in chorus, dramatics, sports, and agriculture. Others are active in library, debate, band, ushers club, Journalism, and student council. Our Homecoming queen and king candidates were Patti Gulseth and Fred Hardy...Fred was chosen Homecoming King. Judy Shea, the seniors' candidate, was crowned queen of the annual Carnival. The class play was a comedy entitled Grandma's Best Years. The senior student council repre- sentatives are Buster Berg (vice pres.), Lana Chaplin (pres.), and Jack Jensen. These people must plan and organize the annual. They must design cages, collect pictures, and tend to the other details in the construction of this publica- tion. This school paper, issued once a month, contains the events and gossip of school life. It has inter- esting highlights on fads and fashions, sports, coming and past events, comments from the teachers and advisers, grade news. Booster polls, etc. Booster Blackduckling The Blackduckling is the daily school news published in the weekly Blackduck American. It consists of coming and past events, the hot lunch menu, etc. The Blackduckling staff is com- posed of students from the sev- enth to twelfth grades. They help to keep the library in order and assist other students in locating books and magazines. Some of the librarians help in the repair of books, etc. Student Council The Student Council consists of representatives from the seventh to' twelfth grades. The purpose of this organization is to re- present the students in working for the general welfare of the school. The members sell popcorn at the football games. This year's club is built around the return of Solberg, Wernberg, and Wingren; all others are first-year mem- bers. The debaters have seen action in several invitational tournaments, also, the Regional Debate Tournament at Mahnomen. Debate Club Ushers’ Club The Ushers Club is composed of 5 boys and 5 girls from each of the junior and senioi classes. Its purpose is to usher for the school functions such as plays, concerts, commencement, etc. This is strictly a service club and its membership is limited. The chorus performs at the Fall, Christmas, and Spring Concerts and the District 29 Spring Music Contest; the Baccalauereate Services complete the choral act- ivities. From the High School Chorus, solos and ensembles are organized which perform at various school and community events. This year two new ensembles were organ- ized... the girls' Beauty Shoppe Quartette and the Boys' Double Quartette. The band has furnished music at the following events: football games, basketball games, pep fests, the Fall Music Concert, Christmas Concert, District 29 Music Contest, Spring Concert, Commencement and Baccalaureate Services, and Mem- orial Day, Through the summer months, the band, along with some adults, rehearse once a week and present a concert each Saturday evening in the City Band Shell. During the school term the High School band rehearses three periods a week. The beginners band meets twice a week, during the noon hour. It is a feeder band for the Concert Band.
