Lyman Arionus and Albert Braun, former members of the class of '51, enlisted in the United States Army after completing their sophomore year. Lyman was stationed with the 2nd Engineering Bat- talion in Korea and has been reported missing since November 30, 1950. Al, who was a well known athlete while in high school, died on March 25, 1950, after a long ill- ness at Fitzimmons Veterans Huspital in Denver, Colorado, as a result of ulcerated colitis. Miller, Stortroen, Gramling (Adv), The seventh graders, that bunch of youngsters who were a little rowdy at the beginning of the year as they were new in B. H. S , elected Raymond Murray as president, Nancy Cheney as vice president, Norma Gilstad as secretary, and Melvin Theisen as treasurer. I Mrs. Brunson's 25 first J graders worked hard this year preparing a circus I program and Tea which ' they gave to their parents. The division of second graders taught by Miss Scheneker was kept bus this year with the usual ,rreadin',ritinf, and rithemetec.” Miss Haugen has 38 third graders. They have been working in booklets showing the different clothing for the four seasons. Until Christmas, Mrs Leonard and Miss Mattson each taught a split third and fourth grade. Captain Bud Anderson, with the help of Mr. Brunson, does a good job of keeping the members alert as they go about their duties of directing the children across the streets and keeping order at the athletic functions. STUDENT COUNCIL Whenever any important question arises concerning school government, the Student Council is always on the job. Under the supervision of Mr. Brosvick, superintendent, the officers, president, John Miller, vice president, Lois Giles, secretary, Kay O'Brien, and Arlys Heinrich, treasurer, worked out many of the problems confronting the students. With a song and a smile could well be the motto of the members of the chorus and their director, Mr. Hanson. It is the general opinion of B. H. S. that the music which they contributed to the numerous concerts throughout the year was much improved over previous years. SEXTETTE That group of six smiling faces that you have hoard sing- ing at the various programs and concerts during the year is none other than the girl’s sextette They are accom- panied by Carol Nesset and directed by Mr Hanson. The band, under the direction of Mr. Hanson, had a very successful year. They did a very good job of playing at games and gave two concerts which were enjoyed by everyone who heard them. They also held an auction sale to help pay for new uniforms. JUNIOR SEXTETTE Jenny Kilde, Betty Berg, Chatta Huffman, Janet Larson, Sharon Beier, and Janet Bauer, make up the junior sextette. Whenever there is a deadline to be met, the members of the Booster and the Blackduckling staffs are very busy people. With Virginia Bye editing and Miss Erickson advising, the Booster comes out every two weeks and the Blackduckling is a weekly feature in the Blackduck American. Mrs. Gilstad, their faculty adviser, saw to it that the staff did their duties properly and that there was order in the library at all times. Below is an everyday scene of activity in the library. A., under the advisership of Mr. Gordon, were very active during the year and have entered in many of the judging contests held throughout the year. CHEERLEADERS Our four senior cheerleaders, Jean Shea, Marilyn Connell, Kay O'Brien and Lois Giles, led the students in many a rousing cheer at the athletic functions throughout the year. The 1950 Blackduck High School football team won their first three games then after losing to Big Fork they couldn't get back in the win column. The Drakes of 1950-51 enjoyed a fairly successful season Winning 14 and losing 5 games. They were champions of the sub-district and took third place in the district. S., elected Kent Matheny president, John Miller vice president, Lyle Anderson secretary-treasurer, and Chet Martin bouncer. This organization sponsored the Football and Basketball Banquets which were given in honor of the respective teams. They also partook in a number of social events throughout the season. TRACK Carlson, Gilmore, Smith, John Miller, Jim Miller, Martin. The season was rather unfav- orable for track because of the late spring. The team had only two or three days of training before the dis- trict meet in Bemidli.
