The advisers, Miss Larson and Mr. Brunson, helped them over the rough spots and the class Is now looking forward to the eighth grade. Student Council rep- resentatives are Yvonne Erpelding and Dean Nesset. GRADE NOTES FIRST GRADE Sixty-four eager happy looking faces appeared September 6th to greet the first grade teachers. Mrs. Brunson's first graders were thrilled to have Sharon Flelschman and Nell Zimmerman of their room, voted as Posture King and Queen of the whole grade school. Mrs. Gllstad's boys and girls were proud of the fact that during Education Week they had the most visitors In the school. SECOND GRADE Thirty second-graders entered a new room last fall, eager to see what new fields would be opened to them, They discovered that one was spelling, which they took great pride In learning. Reading also added many new words to their vocabulary. The main units undertaken through- out the year were; Animals, Weather, Water, The Earth, Pilgrims, Lincoln, and Washington. Finger-painting was a brand new experience for these children. A busy year was lnjoyed by the second grade, which was under the supervision of Mrs. Giles. SPLIT ROOM The so-called split-room was made up of fifteen third grade pupils, and thirteen second grade pupils. They spent an enjoyable year with plenty of hard study In their reading, arithmetic and spelling, but with the work there was always a bit of fun on the side to take the drudgery out of the work. This room was under the supervision of Mrs. Strong. THIRD GRADE Because of the large number of third graders this year it was neces- sary to sullt the grade. This left an enrollment of seventeen boys and fourteen girls in the third grade room. Although the children have work- ed hard they have had fun too. Everyone enjoyed the Christmas party, the Halloween party and the Valentines party. It was fun getting ready for the P. T. A. program too. Miss Haugen was the teacher. FOURTH GRADE We started out with forty-five peppy youngsters In the fourth grade but ended up with forty-three peppy ones. Mrs. Chester Leonard was our teacher and she tried hard to put us through our paces. Hardest to learn were our multiplication tables. High lights of the year were our Thanksgiving Play, our P.T.A. program and our February program for the high school and the grades. Extra fun days have been Christmas and the Valentines Parties, field day and our picnics days, FIFTH GRADE The fifth grade now has an enrollment of forty-six. In the fall the fifth grade helped the sixth grade give a Columbus Day program for the Parent Teachers Association. The United States is the main topic of study in both the History and Geography classes. Geography goes a little farther to include Canada and South America. Miss Duda was the teacher. SIXTH GRADE In the sixth grade room of forty-five this year, we have twenty-four boys and twenty-one girls. Gene Whiting left early in the fall for Port- land Oregon; Pearl Hughes moved to Island Lake; and coming from Hines was Richard OstlunfL, a new student. We are very proud to have Bergetta Miller playing in the high school band, Six others taking Instrumental lessons and five students are studying piano under the direction of Mrs. Ralph Norland. The teacher is Florence Hirth, of Clarissa, Minnesota. GIRLS1 CHORUS The Christmas Concert and the Spring Con- cert were the“ main achievements of the Girls' Chorus this year. Under the direction of Mr. Sundet they mastered many pieces of music of both serious and gay nature. This was achieved by many hours of hard work on the part of both he and the band. They made many public appearances this year. They gave three concerts and were right In there pitching at all of the home games. There were also a few out-of-town trips. One of f-ese v;as to BemldJ to hear the U.3.A. Marine Bend. If you read the Blackduck American you undoubtedly read the Blackduckling, BBS's contribution in school news. Miss Larson Is adviser and Audrey Gilstad editor.
