SENIQR CLASS I-IISTCJRY History of the Class of 1953 With great pride I shall narrate the history of the class of ninteen hundred and fifty three. In the beginning eighteen eager to learn youngsters entered the door of higher learning. They were at first wary, but the kind voices of the teachers lured them on. In this first year this class with much enthusiasm entered the field of athletics, making the team all the more forceful. Their second year proved more successful, for they had been introduced to such formidable subjects as math, history, English, and biology. School now had more appeal to them. As sophomores they presented a comedy entitled junior'S Mous- tache. At the conclusion of this year they were raised to the rank of juniors. For this promotion they were most grateful. As juniors they helped the seniors present a wonderful play, Brother Goose. At the graduation exercises they presented the Seniors with the traditional daisy chain. Graduation exercises over, the combined grades made a pleasant trip to another state, Florida. Entering the classroom as seniors they received an emblem for their efforts - a class ring. This year brought, around the joyful task of selecting an annual staff, announcements, and caps and gowns. As another class has reached its goal, graduation, I close this history with these thoughts: Learn to laugh, It is better than medicine. Learn to attend to your own business, Few men can handle their own. Learn to say kind words, Nobody ever resents them. Learn to stop grumbling, If you can't see any good in the world keep the bad to yourself. Learn to keep your troubles to yourself g Nobody wants them. Carolyn Cook Historian .. .

SENICR CLASS PROP!-IECY Alfred Lord Tennyson in Locksley Hall says: ...... I dipt into the future far as the human eye could seeg saw the vision of the world, and all the wonder that would be. I, Faye Smith, have also dipped into the future, but not so willingly. This task was thrust upon me, and as class prophet it will be my duty to reveal not only the sunny days but also the dark ones, Edith Leatherman, now a teacher has truly become a lamp unto the feet and a light unto the path of the little ones. Larry Buff followed in his father's footsteps, becoming a profes- sor at Columbia University. Kenneth Rudisill, who, drifted westward, possesses extensive ranch holdings. He also has a large family that has helped him be- come a very successful farmer. Helen Hoyle, head nurse at Catawba General Hospital, opens her heart to all her patients and is loved by all. Farther on I drift and whom do I see but Carolyn Cook, beautician at Shelby Beauty School. Shirley Scronce is married and living happily with her family of six. Rachel Yoder, the girl we selected to be the first one married, was unlucky in love. She found she could thrive better by herself on her sixty-acre farm. jay Wilfong once professional boat racer andholder of many titles, has retired from racing to return to the Wilfong Poultry Farm. The last scene of all, which ends this strange eventful prophecy concerns the class prophet, revealer of the classmates' woes. Faye Smith has likewise forsaken her childhood home to engage in the establishment of her own castle of dreams. Like the good Saint Paul, We know in part, and we prophesy in part , therefore, not being allowed to see more, I follow my grandfather's rule -- Don't ever prophesy unless you know. Prophet: Faye Smith
