SyJaih — Hee, BLACKBURN COLLEGE RNG T HONS Carlinville, Illinois 62626 BEAVER TALES 1984 — where your education really works — 1 Title Page 1 — Dedication Mr. Robert Underbrink This year, the yearbook staff has the honor of dedicating the ’84 annual to two distinguished individuals. Mr. Robert Underbrink has served as the Head Librarian at Blackburn for over 10 years. .Besides the normal task of overseeing the daily functions of the library and handling numerous aspects within the department (i.e. budget, staff, etc.) , he has a distinct quality with people. Many students have found Mr. Under- brink to be a heartwarming and caring individual who is willing to listen and provide assistance if needed. We hope that students will continue to utilize this man as a caring friend. Dean Frances Mitchell is currently the Dean of Students, a position that is being terminated as of the ’84 year. Ms. Mitchell has a long history associated with the college. She was a _ student, assistant registar, registar, resident director and now holds the position of Dean of Students. She has served over 10 years with Blackburn and | will be greatly missed by the Blackburn community. ackburn issciestnad no me rere 2 Dedication UNIV = Ca Underclassmen Dorms Clubs Organizations Administration Faculty Sports Work Program Events Seniors Advertisements Table of Contents 3 NAAN vy-8 YW $ Wy) : ———— Kan RN . . ‘i . 4 Theme D v Class of ’84 The time has finally arrived for us to depart and place Blackburn behind us. To expand on the knowledge gained while attending this institute of higher education. Many of us utilized our four years quite well, becoming involved with the college and striving to make Blackburn a rewarding place for others to learn and grow. We have seen numerous changes within our four year period at Blackburn. We had the rare opportunity to be taught by the late Dr. John Forbes; a highly respected educator. We saw the resignation of former President John Alberti and the Inauguration of the current President, Dr. Bill Denman. We viewed our concern toward the abolishment of Saturday classes, spent probably over $300 at McDonald’s, The Anchor, Ryan’s Pub, Roma’s Pizza and the other places that served edible food when the dining hall was having it’s mystery meat special. We hope that everyone has found some form of happiness while attending Blackburn. Use that “happiness” within your future endeavors and try to formulate close correspondence with others from Blackburn. We know that B.U. is a college that operates on the unity of people, lets keep that unity within the “real” world. Sincerely, Ellen and Tip Theme 5 Class of ’84 People are unreasonable, illogical and self-centered Love them anyway. If you do good, people will accuse you of selfish ulterior motives. Do good anyway. If you are successful, you will win false friends and true enemies. Succeed anyway. Honesty and frankness make you vulnerable. Be honest and frank anyway. The good you do today will be forgotten tomorrow. Do good anyway. The biggest people with the biggest ideas can be shot down by the smallest people with the smallest minds. Think big anyway. What you spent years building may be destroyed overnight. Build anyway. Give the world the best you have and you’ll get kicked in the teeth. Give the world the best you’ve got anyway. 6 Theme Underclassmen 7 Kathy Acker Nancy Adams Sonia Anderson Rebecca Austwick Mark Avalos Sue Ayars Kimberlyn Baker Rhonda Bartow Annette Batson Mary Begley Kelly Berndt James Best Chris Black Marilyn Blackburn Carson Bording Jan Bostwick 8 Underclassmen Loretta Bradley Charles Breitwiser Scott Brendle Tammy Broaddus Patti Brown Jeannie Bruno Barry Burgard Andres Caicedo Linda Carter Edward Chicardi Michael Cimaglio Nicholas Cimato Teresa Clatts Leo Coleman Jody Comeno Kathy Conners Underclassmen 9 Mary Connor Becky Copley Kelly Cunningham Laura Curtis Michelle Donnelly Steve Doria Robyn Doty Allison Downing 10 Underclassmen Diana Damelio Rise Davis Melinda Dean Gayle Diggs veceummeneninientins Diana Drouillard Christopher Durbin Angela Dunlap Joey East Freda Eastman Margaret Egan Susan Ejilerman Bibiana Ejekan Dawn Eldred Harriet Engle Kathy Fehlberg Sally Ferguson Underclassmen 11 Andrea Flozak Laura Frank Robert Frank Jr Jeff Gaines David Gallion John H. Not pictured, but also a staff member is Mi- chael Muller. The 1983-84 Beaver Tales advisor was Mitch Clark, Chair- man of the Art Department. Not pic- tured, but also a great help to the yearbook staff is Ruby Wray, Business Administra- tion, who advised us financially. Special thanks to all those who were concerned enough to support the yearbook by contributing some of their time to its creation: Mike Muller for copy and layouts, Ed Wilson for his artwork on the division pages, Paul Wilm for helping us mail out and pack senior’s yearbooks, Mary Begley for typing copy, and the Public Relations office for all the photography they did for us. Special thanks also goes to Mitch Clark and Ruby Wray for their guidance and concern. 40 Clubs Organizations .
