WGRK COMMITTEE WORK MANAGE Russell Zimmer and Marilyn Kerchenfaut Serving as Work managers for the 1953 year were Marilyn Kerchenfaut as Womens work manager, and Russell Zim- mer as men's Work manager. They sched-- ule all student Work and oversee the action of the Work committee, and, it might be added, they have done so quite successfully. The work plan, as seen in operation on Blackburn's campus, is one of the outstanding aspects of the school. Each student contributes to this plan by working fifteen hours a Week in part payment of his room and board. Students prepare meals, build new buildings, maintain buildings and grounds, and serve as secretaries for faculty members. The committee in charge of all this Work consists of student managers with three faculty advisors. Each department has a student work head in charge of the work in that particular area. The student body, faculty, and retiring Work heads choose the Work committee who will serve the following year. STUDENT MARSHALS To be chosen as a Student Marshal by the faculty is the highest recognition of scholarship and leadership that can come to a Blackburn student. Yes, it's time for the Sadie Hawkins dancel This year found an unusually large number of girls with their dates in tow, dressed in a great variety of colorful and, in some instances, rather odd-looking costumes. There were several Daisy Maes and Li'l Abners, a number of girls decked out in boys' clothes, and some boys dressed in girls' apparel. The main event was the grand march followed by the awarding of prizes to the boy and girl with the best cos- tume, and to the boy with the longest beard. Bump Hughes and Vivian Locke were the win- ners in the costume contest, while Gordon MacLeod took first prize for his successful at- tempt at growing a beard. FACULTY FUNNIES The faculty party, an annual affair held at the Fireside Inn, used as its theme this year the funny papers. Since this is always a costume party, the faculty Was dressed as his or her favor- ite comic strip character. Decorations were on the forrn of paper dolls cut out of the comic strip section of the news- paper.
