Www Zum 244 Mdlbtf In September, 1947, twenty-nine bright-eyed children entered the room of Mrs. Florence Welch at Albion to begin their school career. There are now only ten of the original first grade. They are: Nancy Geiger, Pat Wandel, Bertha Blodgett, Eloise Gentry, Nancy Campbell, Louise Welch, linda Norris, jim Rowe, Dick Brooks, and Donald Hoffman. In the second grade we remained at Albion. Mary Bridgett, june Kravitz, and Louise Howman joined our class. The class was divided between Mrs. Soka and Mrs. Cupp. In the third grade we were again under the guidance of Mrs.. Soka. For our fourth year we were transferred to the Homer building under the sponsorship of Mrs. I-lockensmith. Kathy Weimer joined our class. In the fifth grade we were again divided, some under Mrs. Hockensmith and some went into the late Mrs. Beatrice jenkins' room. Ian Reinhardt joined our class this year. In the sixth grade we were under the direction of Mrs. Cupp. Twenty-five were in our class. We were now ready to climb the big stairs and enter junior High School. It was quite an experience to change classes and have more than one teacher for a whole day. We all survived the 7th and 8th grades, however, and were soon ready to enter high school. Eric Kirvel joined our class. During our freshman year we had Mr. Gottron for an advisor. We made money for our class by selling cards, and stationery. George McWilliams came to us from Lodi. When we were sophomores we ordered our class rings. We sold pies and cakes at noon to make money. Mr. Gottron was our advisor. During our eleventh year we had Mr. Gottron as our advisor. We presented our class play Maybe You're Wrong. We entertained the Senior Class at the annualjfr.-Sr. Prom in Ashland at the Ashland Terrace Hotel. Our theme was A Song in My Heart. In the fall of 1959 we became the second senior class to be enrolled under the name of Black River Local School, and as usual we had Mr. Gottron for our advisor. We presented for our Senior Class Play, Curtain Going Up, under the direction of Mrs. Neiswinter. We helped edit the school annual, The Echo.
