Superintendent’s Message Dear Seniors: Has it occurred to you that you are about to become, in the true meaning of the word, pioneers? As each pioneer had a personal goal, you, too, should select certain objectives in life and then devote yourselves to their fulfillment. As did the pioneers, you, too, must select weapons. Where they used pistols and sharp-edged axes, your prime weapons will be knowledge - knowledge that has been achieved in school, knowledge that has been gained in the growing-up processes, and knowledge that will be learned as you strive to reach your goals. The pioneer had to face the brunt of danger. His dangers included travel, hunger, thirst, Indians, weather, ridicule, and physical hardship. Your dangers are challenges - challenges to avoid the destructive forces of war; challenges to each of you to face and solve problems of automation, space travel, more leisure time, greater longevity, increased population, government control, and changes in moral and spiritual values. Upon graduation from the Black River High School, you should be prepared to face the responsibility of being depended upon by all the rest of us. In this role you must not be impatient; yet be full of action. You must possess humility; yet maintain manly pride and friendship. You must accept the world you enter; yet continually strive for its improvement. The strength, energy, and resiliency of youth must be applied to achiev- ing your goals and to shaping the world in the image of your courage, faith, hopes, and beliefs. From your ranks will come the pioneers of tomorrow. These pioneers will embark upon careers and discoveries unknown to us today. They willshapethedestiny of mankind. May their goals be your goals. May you be listed in their ranks. I want to take this opportunity to wish each of you personal success. It is my hope that your goals will be achieved and that you will become modern pioneers. We are dependent upon you. Sincerely, ( k [i Alan H. Weiss Superintendent
